The Snatcher Series - 4
Now that Miners Bend has discovered who its woman snatcher is and has started a manhunt for the hiding killer, their story catches the interest of journalist, Bailey Fortune. Wanting to write her first biography about him, she comes to Miners Bend as a woman on a mission. Now if only she could charm a couple murder scene shots from local photographer, Shyler Daggert, without becoming too distracted by his ceaseless seduction attempts, she’d be on the right track. Then again, flirting with his cousin, Zane Bromin, the sexy librarian, isn’t keeping her focused all that well either. What’s worse, both men want her in return, and she can’t seem to choose between them. Then a third, evil man decides he wants her too. The Snatcher throws a wrench into her grand novelist plans when he decides to give her his exclusive, intent to make her his next victim in the process.
At five minutes until regular business hours, Bailey gathered her bag full of goodies, slipping the sturdy strap over her shoulder. She ignored the way it weighed down her left arm at an odd angle and hauled her load across the street to wait directly in front of the entrance. Too impatient to wait, she jiggled the door handle, hoping maybe they’d opened early.
Grinning out a heavy breath--so far, so good--she entered the quiet lobby and paused at the map of departments. Adult services, youth services, periodicals…
Too antsy to read through each line to find her destination, she hurried past the sign and headed for the main circulation counter, its half-rounded dimensions bulging out toward her in greeting. At first, she couldn’t see anyone seated at the tall counter, but as she approached, she noticed the back of a man’s head. He sat at a lower, interior desk inside the circular counter, in front of a computer screen. But he ignored the screen and instead tipped his face down to read a hardback book he’d settled on his lap.
From the back, he appeared youngish with a head full of silken brown hair. But his shoulders were wide enough to denote a certain maturity. He was probably her age, if not a bit older. Late twenties, early thirties.
He wore a navy, red, and white flannel plaid shirt with the long sleeves pushed up just enough to bare his forearms, making him look more like a logger than a librarian. Bailey paused on the other side of the circulation counter, struck by the brief peek of those arms covered by short, dark hairs and a single vein running up one side. Her gaze slid to his hands as he turned a page. Strong hands, capable hands. Virile hands.
Bet those hands knew how to touch a woman.
She shivered and cleared her throat.
The man lifted his face and glanced over his shoulder. When his brown eyes connected with her green ones, a bolt of awareness burned a blazing streak across her abdomen.
Holy Guacamole! Mr. Librarian with the strong, capable hands and sexy forearms had a face to match.
Mmm. Bailey like.
What the heck was a man like this doing working in a library?
His features were masculine, all rugged outlines with sharp, striking angles, a bent nose that had probably been broken once or twice in his life and a mouth she felt the immediate urge to taste.
He blinked, then swiveled his chair her way before pushing to his feet and towering above her. And just like that, she turned warm and moist, ready to discover if everything on him was equally large.
“Yes?” he asked, and oh dear God, he even had a sexy voice. Deep and jarring in its own right, it traveled through her until it tickled her with another big ol’ dose of pure lust.
Good answer, honey, she wanted to tell him. And here, she hadn’t even gotten around to asking yet. But if he kept saying yes like that, she knew the yummy questions would start pouring out of her mouth in no time. Lifting the end of her pen to her lips, she chewed on it to draw his attention to her mouth--which she did. Score! She flashed him the sexiest smile she could manage. “Do you have an archival room?”
