Adria, wolf changeling and resilient soldier, has made a break with the past—one as unpredictable in love as it was in war. Now comes a new territory, and a devastating new complication: Riaz, a SnowDancer lieutenant already sworn to a desperate woman who belongs to another.

For Riaz, the primal attraction he feels for Adria is a staggering betrayal. For Adria, his dangerous lone-wolf appeal is beyond sexual. It consumes her. It terrifies her. It threatens to undermine everything she has built of her new life. But fighting their wild compulsion toward one another proves a losing battle.

Their coming together is an inferno…and a melding of two wounded souls who promise each other no commitment, no ties, no bonds. Only pleasure. Too late, they realize that they have more to lose than they ever imagined. Drawn into a cataclysmic Psy war that may alter the fate of the world itself, they must make a decision that might just break them both.

Crystal's Thoughts:

Tangle of Need might be the eleventh book in the series, but it was still just as fresh and captivating as the first!

We were first introduced to Riaz and Adria in Play of Passion, through their connection to the SnowDancer Lieutenant, Indigo. Adria is Indigo's aunt and the reason Indigo had such reservations about mating with a wolf less dominant then her. After years of emotional abuse, Adria has finally left her long-term partner, Martin. A wolf who disparaged Adria for her dominance despite her unflagging love and loyalty. While Riaz was a sexual playmate for Indigo before Drew came along. At that time we found out that Riaz had finally met his mate while on an over-seas assignment, but sadly she is already happily married. And Riaz loves her too much to destroy that relationship for her. Now, both wolves are back at the SnowDancer den to pick up the pieces of their lives and try to build anew.

Upon meeting there is an undeniable attraction between Adria and Riaz, but they are in complete denial at first. Riaz can't help but feel that it is a betrayal to his true mate. Unable to process his growing feelings for Adria, he takes out his confusion and anger on her. But Adria has had enough abuse from the males in her life and doesn't stand for it. Eventually these to come to terms with the chemistry sizzling between them but hot sex is not enough to conquer their own fears or overcome their past. Adria and Riaz's romance was an emotional roller-coaster with enough ups and downs to make your head spin. They're not a couple that I loved instantly, because they were each very rough around the edges and abrasive. But as they came to terms with their own inner demons I found myself liking them more and more until I eventually fell in love with them as well. I was surprised by the end how much I actually enjoyed this book.

Adria and Riaz's relationship, when they finally give into it, is unique. In Kiss of Snow I think the author started inching into the territory of Changelings being able to share a lasting relationship without a mating with Hawke and Sienna. Which opened up an avenue for Riaz and Adria to find a happily ever after. Tangle of Need was filled with humor, romance, and plenty of frustration. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough!

Hawke and Sienne share plenty of page time with the new couple, giving readers a wonderful glimpse into the continual happiness (and of course some struggles) of the mated pair as well as their mating ceremony. There is also a good amount of time with other wonderful characters that long-time readers have come to love. It gives Tangle of Need a well-rounded feel and a sense of coming home. The Psy conflict continues as well and I can't help but become more and more fascinated by the powerful Kaleb with each book. Along with the mysterious Arrows, what started out as intense dislike for this cold race has turned into fascination and intrigue.  I can't wait for their own stories!

My suggestion would be to read Tangle of Need in series order, otherwise there is a lot going on, and a lot of backstory that you miss, that might cause confusion. I can't say enough what I must-read series this is for paranormal romance fans and urban fantasy lovers who like a dose of romance in their stories. You'll kick yourself for not reading them sooner! There are a lot of changes coming to the Psy-Changeling world and I can't wait to see what happens next!
