In the latest story of the Elder Races, two mates face their deadliest challenge yet—each other…

Pia and Dragos’s magical young son Liam (the Peanut), is growing at an unprecedented rate, and if that isn’t enough, he is also exhibiting new, and unpredictable, magical gifts. To protect him, the concerned parents decide to move to upstate New York.

Both Dragos and Pia relish the idea of leaving behind the city. They finally have the space to indulge their Wyr side, and Liam can grow in safety. It’s a breath of fresh air—literally—but their idyllic situation is shattered when Dragos is injured in a freak accident.

Stripped of his memory and bereft of Pia’s taming influence, there’s nothing holding back Dragos’s darkest side. And in order to restore her family and save her mate, Pia must confront the most powerful menace in Elder Races history.

It’s going to take more than a penny to fix this…

Thoughts:
Fans of Thea Harrison's Elder Races Series:  Prepare to be blown away!

PIA SAVES THE DAY by Thea Harrison proves once again that Thea is a master storyteller.  She takes the genre of paranormal romance to a new high with each new release.  I am admittedly a HUGE FAN of her Elder Races series and my favorite characters, Dragos, Pia and Liam aka Peanut are featured in this tale.  Their relationship has been the stalwart cornerstone romance in this series and this book throws in a heart-lurching tilt!

This tale is # 6.6 in the series.  I'd highly recommend that this series be read in order as there are not only interconnected characters but storylines that continue thru-out.

As this story begins, we learn that Dragos and Pia are renovating their home away from the big city.  Pia walks in the door sporting a new hairdo to find Dragos reading - not a bedtime story - to Liam who is cuddled in Dragos' arms.

“His father read aloud, quietly, his voice steady and gentle, while he pressed a hand to Liam's delicate back, supporting his position...
She realized Dragos was reading the quarterly profit percentages from a stockholders' report.”

As Dragos and Pia plan to rendezvous later with promises of a shared night of pleasure to come, Pia takes over the parenting and Dragos leaves to check the status of the construction.  Fate, however, delivers a disastrous blow to the couple's plans courtesy of an explosion and a resultant collapse of bedrock.  Dragos is initially feared dead.  Thankfully, he survives, but the huge dragon with the golden eyes is hurt and has amnesia.

A game of cat and mouse ensues where one wrong move could mean the death of Pia as she struggles to reconnect with Dragos, the mate she loves with every fiber of her being.  His inability to remember her and who he is, is both dangerous and heartbreaking.  Pia really shines here with her cool head and loyalty.  She was not going to give up on Dragos and their life together no matter the danger to her. The roughest scene for me was watching Pia say goodbye to Liam for a short while to concentrate on helping Dragos.  There's plenty of sweet and humorous moments too.

I held my breath more times in this short read than I have in most much long books!  Pia's distress and desperation to help her mate was palpable.  Regardless, their sizzling chemistry still rocked the pages.  Following are some of my favorite quotes:

--
“I'll die before I stop wanting you.”
--
"You are mine. You are always going to be mine. It doesn't matter what came before, the only thing that matters is what is now and going forward. There will never be anyone else for you. Only me. Me.”
--
“He clenched his teeth and muttered, "I can't get deep enough."

Putting her mouth to his ear, she whispered, "Try.”

--

Other favorite supporting characters make appearances to lend their fealty and strength.   I laughed, I cried.  Thea's writing is nothing short of magical!  Every word works its way into your heart.  I relished in revisiting with Dragos, Pia and Liam as we learn if true love can conquer the effects of Dragos' amnesia.  I can hardly wait for the next book where we'll be heading to first grade with Liam!

I can't recommend PIA SAVES THE DAY highly enough to fans of the series!  It's a MUST-READ.  And... IF you're not a fan YET, pick up the first book, DRAGON BOUND, and become one!
