Tour: Wildewood-Revenge by BA Morton (Guest Post/Giveaway)

Please give a warm welcome to author, B.A. Morton!

Like many writers I listen to music when I’m tippy tapping at the keyboard. I find it helpful for creating atmosphere and developing characters. Wildewood-Revenge is set in my own neck of the woods, the stunning Upper Coquet Valley in Northumberland, just a few miles from the Scottish border. So it stood to reason I’d look for a fellow Geordie musician to keep me company while I spun my tale. Sting’s album “On a Winter’s Night” with its haunting Northumbrian folk songs was a perfect choice when creating the ancient and otherworldly atmosphere as Grace and Miles trek through the frozen forests. Similarly the lively and traditional ceilidh tracks, such as “Soul Cake” plus liberal quantities of cinnamon sticks, mulled wine and a roaring log fire all helped to inject a medieval feel. When it came to characterisation however, one track definitely logged some air time. Certainly not medieval, but perfect for my unchivalrous knight, Miles, “It’s a man’s world” James Brown. Though I have to admit I prefer the Etta James version. Dido’s “White Flag/I will go down with this ship” very much reflects Grace’s dilemma, and is guaranteed to put a lump in the throat...especially in the latter chapters.

So, that’s my play list...Read the book, listen to the tracks and see if you agree.

Hounds of Winter, Sting –

Lullaby for an anxious child, Sting –

Soul Cake, Sting -

It’s a Man’s World, James Brown –

White Flag/I will go down with this ship, Dido –

A knight. A witch. A Secret.
When Grace, a twenty first century heroine, is accidently transported through a time portal into the clutches of an impoverished medieval knight with one eye on her ransom, we are treated to a brilliant evocation of medieval England which heaves with corruption and intrigue.
The remote and beautiful wilderness of ancient Northumberland rings out with the sound of clashing swords, the hiss of arrows, thundering hooves and the chink of coin bags changing hands in shady deals.
It is all there: a spirited and sensual romance, an action-packed adventure story, hidden treasure, revengeful and devious barons and corpulent and corrupt clergy.
Beset on all sides by danger and deception, with only their wits and a small band of loyal followers to assist them, Grace and Miles of Wildewood find their lives inexplicably entwined as they battle for justice, honour and love.
