The League of Second Sons: A secret society of younger sons, sworn to aid and abet each other, no matter the scandal or cost...Their fathers and brothers may rule the world, but they run it, and when it comes to passion, they refuse to accept second best.
After the scandalous demise of her marriage, Lady Olivia Carlow knows the rakes of the ton will think her fair game. So when a letter arrives bearing an indecent offer from the incorrigible Roland Devere, she seizes the opportunity. Turning the tables on the notorious rogue, she blackmails him into playing her betrothed for the season. But no matter how broad his shoulders or chiseled his features, she will never fall prey to his suave charm.
When Roland boasted he'd be the first into Lady Olivia's bed, he couldn't have imagined that behind those brilliant blue eyes lurked a vixen with a scheme of her own. Still, Roland is not about to abandon his original wager. If anything, learning that the lovely Olivia is as bold as she is beautiful makes him more determined to seduce her into never saying "never" again.

Lexi's Thoughts:

The League of Second Sons finally has a third book out! Carr continues with her writing style and second son characters in Ripe for Seduction

The way the story starts out is pure genius. Roland making a bet (when he was waaay too drunk to be doing so), and that bet not only being made known to the young lady but she uses it against him! If only that happened more often in real life...

You do not have to feel too sorry for Roland very long, it soon becomes apparent he has embraced his task of seducing Olivia and he does have to work for it. She is very much affected by his charms but has made mistakes in her past and is comitted to doing things her way so she can be left alone. But who oh who would want to be left alone when you have someone like Roland after you?

The plot line was a great idea, Roland was well written. Unfortunately for this reviewer it failed to put the hooks in. There seemed to be numerous characters that came and went, did not make much of an impression and were therefore hard to keep track of. The dynamic between Roland and Olivia was lacking real heat, there was some sizzle but not enough to light a fire. Overall it was just missing whatever it is that makes the pages keep turning faster and faster. Perhaps you will have better luck, care to check it out?

  1. So true. What one likes, another hates. Not all books are to everyone's tastes.

  2. On that note, I remember many years ago going to see a movie that everyone said was wonderful; I, however, thought it was really bad. It's the same with books. One man's trash is another man's treasure.
This book sounds fantastic. I'd love to read it to see Roland really have to work for Lady Olivia.
    Thanks for the honest review.

  4. I haven't read any of Isobel Carr's books as yet but I have had my eye on the League of Second Sons series. The premise behind the series sounds fun and promising. I don't expect every book I read to totally leave me enraptured. Some books entertain me just enough to keep me interested. Not to mention I'm a series junkie. I don't always like every book in a series but if they have a caste of intriguing enough characters I always look forward to reading the other books.

  5. Hmmm....it sounds like a good book.
I liked reading your review. I'm sure if you put 10 women in a room, had them all reading the same book, you'd get a multitude of responses. Just like all the reviews authors receive on their books. Some people love it, some like it & others would just rather do without it.
