Please give a warm welcome to romance author, Cheryl Douglas, who is joining us today on tour for her series, Nashville Nights!
Author: Cheryl Douglas
Series: Nashville Nights / Next Generation
Book: Shameless, Book One
Today I read a blog post about an author who was speaking about the new breed of authors, the ‘super authors’ complete with the cape who churn out a book a month, all the while blogging, tweeting, facebooking, doing virtual tours, editing, responding to fan mail, perhaps even handling their own design and advertising.
Sadly, I can’t count myself among this select group. I do blog, though not as often as I should. I don’t tweet. I do spend too much time on Facebook. I don’t even think about tackling cover design or designing marketing materials because I’m not willing to invest the time to learn how to use Photoshop competently. I don’t even format my own books. Sad, but true.
I have a brilliant graphic design, three great editors, two competent virtual tour operators, a professional formatter, and I don’t feel an ounce of guilt about delegating those tasks. Why? Because like everyone, I only have twenty-four hours in a day, and when possible, I like to sleep for at least six. I have a husband and son who like to see me once a while, the odd friend who still speaks to me, a family who may have disowned me, and oh yeah, I’m committed to releasing a full length novel every month.
My first priority is writing books that will satisfy the readers who have already invested countless hours of their busy lives reading the books in my series. If I disappoint even one of them because I produce a book that is less than they expect, I’m disappointing myself. I’m not talking about the reader who reads the first book in my series and decided it’s not for them. I’m talking about the devoted fans who check in with me on Facebook every day to find out what’s new in my life. I’m talking about the people who take time out of their busy day to drop me an email and tell me how much they’re enjoying the series. It’s the people who sign up for my newsletters and tell all of their friends and family about my books that I want to please, because without them I wouldn’t be able to say that I have the coolest job in the world!
So rest assured, dear readers, no matter how busy I get, I’ll never too busy for you. So long as you understand I can’t respond to that FB message or email until I’ve hit my word goal for the day!
About the Author:
Cheryl began her professional career as a nutritionist, but her love of books started at an early age. She studied writing for many years before she decided to pursue her passion as a full-time career. After receiving constructive criticism from several well-known authors, Cheryl finally had the confidence to write her first romance novel.
The first book in the Nashville Nights series, Shameless, was a book that had been dwelling in Cheryl’s subconscious for years. For her, the surprise came when the manuscript began taking on a life of it’s own. Characters came to life, secondary characters became more prominent, outlines were forgotten, and a single title evolved into an eight book series, and another eight book spin-off series entitled Nashville Nights, Next Generation.
One word would aptly describe Cheryl: workaholic. She lives and breathes her writing, when she’s sleeping, watching TV, driving, reading… it’s always in the periphery of her mind. Her imagination rarely takes a holiday, even when she escapes to a sandy beach with her husband and son, she’s planning, plotting, outlining, and daydreaming.
Cheryl feels blessed to be able to get up every day and do something she loves. The thousands of fans who have embraced the Nashville Nights have made that possible. She writes for the readers who ask for more, she writes to satisfy the muse residing inside of her, but most of all, she writes because she couldn’t imagine doing anything else with her life. It took her thirty-seven years to decide what she wanted to be when she grew up, but now that she knows, she’s convinced she’s found her purpose.
