Worlds divide, magic slays, and love lies in the second book of Josephine Angelini’s The Worldwalker Trilogy.

"You think I’m a monster, but my choices, as ruthless as they seem, are justified."

Lily is back in her own universe, and she's ready to start a new life with Rowan by her side. True, she almost died in the Pyre that fueled their escape from New Salem, and must hide her magic for the safety of everyone she cares about, but compared to fighting the Woven, the monstrous creatures inhabiting the alternate Salem, life is looking pretty good.

Unfortunately, Lillian, ruthless ruler of the 13 Cities, is not willing to let Lily go that easily. If she can’t persuade Lily to return to her world, she will force her to come back by doing away with the ones she loves.

Picking up right where Trial By Fire left off, Firewalker is another sexy, fast-paced, heartbreaking thrill ride from internationally bestselling author Josephine Angelini!

Linda's Thoughts:
“Haven’t you learned yet? Someone has to be the villain so everyone else can stay alive.”

FIREWALKER by Josephine Angelini is a fabulous sequel to TRIAL BY FIRE. I was attracted to this series by the concept of two parallel universes and because it featured witches. Once I started this installment, I couldn't sleep until I finished it. It's VERY GOOD but, it has one of those extremely cruel cliffhanger endings. Noooooo!

I would not plunge into FIREWALKER without having read TRIAL BY FIRE. Therefore, in my opinion, FIREWALKER would not work well as a standalone. Do yourself a favor and read this series in order. FIREWALKER picks up right where the prior book left us.

This book continues the saga of the Lily and her evil twin, Lillian and Rowan, the mechanic who has serviced both of them. Many of the supporting characters from the previous book return and they are augmented by more. Along the way, we learn much more about the fascinating magical worlds the author has created. We also learn about possible explanations for why Lillian has behaved and evolved as she has - the trouble is that we don't know whether to trust that information. Lily continues to evolve into a strong, kickass witch confident in herself and her abilities though she still has a long road ahead of her. She certainly bears little resemblance to the sickly, weak character who began this series.

Following please find a few of my favorite quotes from this read:

“Do you know what it means to be a survivor? It means that not only do you have to live through things, you have to live with them as well. The second part is much harder and sometimes it takes the rest of your life to learn how to do it. But at least you have the rest of your life…”
---

“What I want to know is when does Lily get off her butt and do some chores?" Tristan said, panting, as he dragged a gnarly stump of bleached wood up the beach. "I feel like I've been stacking wood and stoking fire all damn day while she just sits there."
Rowan gave Tristan a disapproving look. "It's a mechanic's privilege to serve his witch.”
---

“She's tough and funny and caring. Beautiful. And that ass. Don't look at her ass, you idiot. It's the same ass you've seen a million times, so just forget about it because the last thing you need is to start remembering what it feels like. She really isn't Lillian, is she? She sort of is, Lillian, though, in all the best ways. No, that's wrong. I'm not looking for Lillian in Lily anymore, and I haven't since we've been on the run. It's strange, but I'm starting to wonder if it wasn't Lillian I loved. Maybe what I loved was the Lily in Lillian. Oh, shit. I think I love Lily...”

I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys YA paranormals or urban fantasies. I knocked 1/2 Wine Glass from my rating as a penalty for the torture inflicted by the ruthless cliffhanger. It's a particularly vicious one. The next book, TRAITOR'S PYRE, can't come soon enough!

Suggested Reading Order:
