It’ll take more than a badge to get her to confess her secrets.

Kit Wainwright only meant to stop the thief making off with his beloved uncle’s ashes. He wants to hang up his gun, become a law-abiding citizen and leave his violent past behind. But the mayor takes notice of his sharpshooting skills, slaps a badge on his chest and puts him in charge of cleaning up this lawless town. Starting with tracking down the notorious Velvet Grace.

Bordello owner Cora Reilly never meant to become a crusader. But after shooting the last corrupt sheriff in self-defense, she’s spent the last few months turning her hastily donned disguise into a local legend to defend the girls in her town from riff-raff.

There’s no way Cora can trust the handsome new sheriff. Yet Kit’s kisses leave her wanting to open her arms—and her bedroom—to soothe his grief. Even if it brings him too close to the truth that could send her to the gallows.

Warning: Contains a reluctant sheriff with a keen eye for a moving target, and a take-no-crap madam who isn’t about to let him get close. Okay, maybe just a little bit closer. Just this once…

Linda's Thoughts:
“I'm done with men in my life and in my bed."
He raked a hand through his hair and stared at her for a long moment. "After that kiss, I'd say you're about as done with me as I'm done with you... and that's not at all.”

HIS MOST WANTED by Sandra Jones was an enjoyable wild west romance. I was drawn to read it because I'd read HIS CAPTIVE PRINCESS by the same author and thoroughly enjoyed it; AND the idea of a romance set against a shoot-'em-up backdrop intrigued me. However, there was much more to this tale than shoot-outs. It featured a former bordello owner/gunslinger/riverboat gambler/sheriff hero and a bordello owner/vigilante' heroine. Actually, the hero had planned to turn over a new leaf until life intervened... but I digress and you need to pick up this book to read their stories. This is the story of Kit Wainwright and Cora Reilly aka Velvet Grace.

Kit is on a mission to fulfill his uncle's last wish and to put his ashes to rest. He has purchased a ranch, sight unseen, where he plans to settle down and make something of his life. But... within hours of hitting town, he shoots a man... and now he's been appointed the new sheriff - not a position he wanted.

Since the town's law enforcement has been lacking, Cora has been forced to take the law into her own hands to ensure the safety of her girls. But, now she's being framed for a murder she didn't commit.

I liked both Kit and Cora. Their romance was sweet and a bit steamy. When you stir a mystery into the book's plot, it made for a combination that held my attention to the end.

Following please find a few of my favorite quotes from this read:

“Gracious, I must be the luckiest drunk who ever floated the Arkansas River, or ---" he bowed slightly to the ladies, offering his warmest grin, "--- is this Heaven?”

“Fort McNamara stood in the Arkansas River Valley near the Indian Territory border, its citizens declaring it to be the last white civilization for hundreds of miles. But civilization was an ironic choice of words for the place as far as Kit was concerned.”

“She wanted to savor him slowly like a lemon cream pie on a lazy summer day. One bite at a time.”

There were interconnected characters with the previous book in the author's The River Rogue series - but they didn't affect the romance or the plot of this book - so I can confirm that HIS MOST WANTED works well as a standalone. However, HER WICKED CAPTAIN, the first book, is already on my reader and I do plan to start it soon!

HIS MOST WANTED was a fun, well-paced read. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys entertaining historical romances set in the wild wild west.
