Two hearts in the darkness…

Makenna James and Caden Grayson have been inseparable since the day they were trapped in a pitch-black elevator and found acceptance and love in the arms of a stranger. Makenna hopes that night put them on the path to forever—which can’t happen until she introduces her tattooed, pierced, and scarred boyfriend to her father and three over-protective brothers.

Must fight for love in the light…

Haunted by a childhood tragedy and the loss of his family, Caden never thought he’d find the love he shares with Makenna. But the deeper he falls, the more he fears the devastation sure to come if he ever lost her, too. When meeting her family doesn’t go smoothly, Caden questions whether Makenna deserves someone better, stronger, and just more…normal. Maybe they’re too different—and he’s far too damaged—after all…

Crystal's Thoughts:
Love in the Light is sure to delight fan's of Hearts in Darkness with the emotional and heart-warming continuation of Makenna and Caden's story!

Makenna James and Caden Grayson met in the dark, keeping each other grounded in a time of distress, and they exited together to the light. But staying in the light has always been difficult for Caden, and no matter how loving and supportive Makenna is, he can't help but to expect the worst. Will Caden's anxiety and distrust of the future make his own worst fears come to pass?

When I saw Love in the Light pop up for the first time I was so excited to have more of Makenna and Caden! The book picks up shortly after Hearts in Darkness, only a few months into their relationship and these two have been inseparable. When Caden's not on duty, he practically lives at Makenna's and Makenna couldn't be happier. She knows that Caden has a painful, tragic past and that the demons from it still haunt him today. But she also knows that she will support him through through it all and face any demons that emerge together. What neither of the expect, however, is the downward spiral that meeting Makenna's family would put Caden in. Caden's struggle with PTSD, anxiety, and depression was heartrending. It was impossible not to empathize with him, even if you wanted to give him a thump on the head every now and then. Makenna's strength, love, and determination through it all was awe-inspiring. She is a character that truly shined.

Laura Kaye pulls out all the emotional stops in this story, you'll be left dizzy from it. All the laughter, tears, and angst is worth it though. And despite the predictability of the story, every time there was conflict between characters I was expecting this one twist, I still enjoyed every minute of it. A satisfying sequel that cemented my love for these two characters even more! Keep in mind, Love in the Light should not be read as a stand-alone. Do yourself a favor and pick up Hearts in Darkness first. You won't regret it!
