Up by Five by Erin Nicholas (Guest Post/Giveaway)

Please welcome author Erin Nicholas!

Conner Dixon knew football—he could throw a perfect spiral as the game clock was ticking down to nothing and his team was behind by seven. Conner knew how to save a life—he could intubate a trauma victim faster than any paramedic in the city. In a burning building. With gunfire overhead. And a tornado bearing down on the city.
But there was something Conner knew even better than football or being a paramedic.
And that was women.

That’s from my upcoming release Up By Five out April 8th.
Conner Dixon is one of my hot paramedics who plays football for the Omaha Hawks amateur football team.  In fact, he’s the quarterback.  That means he’s a leader on and off the field with his friends. The guys respect him and listen to him … well, okay—there are two places the guys follow Conner’s lead: at the scene of an accident and on the football field. Other than that, they do what they want. Like when Conner told them they couldn’t date his sisters.  Now all four of his little sisters are involved with his four best friends.
But Conner knows football and is always happy to try to recruit some more fans! Especially female fans ☺

Here is Conner’s list of reasons women love football (and football players) and may not even know it—and a little tutorial while we’re at it:

1.  We have tight ends.
Sure a tight end is a guy on offense— a cross between a wide receiver and an offensive lineman. They are frequently called on to block, especially on running plays. But, they are also eligible receivers so may also catch passes—but I’ve been told that our time in the weight room doing squats and the fitted pants we wear aren’t a bad combination.

2.  We take it hard up the middle
Okay this actually refers to running the ball up the middle of the field through the defenders but we’re your guys when you want it hard and fast.

3.  Every inch counts
Football is a game of inches. One inch in the right direction can keep a play alive or can even add to the scoreboard.  Can you girls think of any other time that an inch or so in the right direction can be a good thing? ;)

4.  We’re always going for the sack
As a quarterback the sack on the field—when the defenders get to me before I throw the ball—is a bad thing. But these guys are goal oriented.  If you’re the goal—sack or not—they’re not going to rest until they’re done.

5.  We can go for three hours. Easy.
The game clock will tell you we play four fifteen minute quarters but everyone knows that even the fastest game takes well over an hour.  We’re in it for the long haul—don’t worry, we hydrate and stretch before we start ;)

You can read more about the Omaha Hawks in all five of the Counting on Love books.

He's in the middle of the last thing he wanted… and the best thing to ever happen.

Ace paramedic Conner Dixon has sworn to never live with another woman after raising his four younger sisters. They have been giving him gray hair since they lost their father fifteen years ago. Now they're all in love and Conner's ready to retire-- from worrying, fixing problems and cleaning up messes.

Of course, when his fellow paramedic, Gabrielle Evans, needs a place to stay after her apartment burns down, Conner can't say no. But it's no problem-- Gabby's just one of the guys.

Gabby's penchant for poker and her ability to overhaul a transmission definitely make her different from Conner's usual women. She also has no interest in getting involved with him. Conner's crazy mix of family and friends is the last thing Gabby needs right now. She has her sights set on medical school in the fall and knows success depends on focus and commitment.

But within forty-eight hours of moving in, Gabby's in the middle of a family crisis that could disprove all her I-don't-need-anyone bluster and Conner's in the middle of the last thing he wanted-a girl and all her stuff, all over his stuff. Still, the more she makes herself at home, the more he thinks that's maybe exactly where her stuff should be. For good.

Warning: Contains a girl who thinks she wants to be just one of the guys, a guy who happily proves why that won't work, and a very good reason to buy cinnamon roll icing-you know, other than for use on cinnamon rolls.

Author Bio:

I've been reading romance since my mom first let me into her book cupboard when I was about fourteen. LaVyrle Spencer, Julie Garwood, Debbie Macomber... they took my 'happily ever after' ideas from animated princesses to real people in the real world.
I've been writing romance almost as long. Many a family car trip was spent with my head bent over a spiral notebook in the back seat. I'll confess that my very first attempts at fiction were fantasy and paranormals, influenced by my father's love of the Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Narnia, and the original Alice in Wonderland. If Harry Potter had been around, I'm sure he would have been on the bedtime story shelf as well.
But it wasn't long until I started writing about true love and that's where I've been ever since.
I'm so thrilled to be able to share these stories with you! I hope that they make you smile, sigh, maybe even choke up a little. Most of all, I hope that they help you believe in magical things like first kisses, the spark of passion, and the power of true love.

  2. I am the baby of the family. Unfortunately I do not get along with my brother at all and my sister and I do not have anything in common.

It would be nice to have had someone look after me when I was younger. Maybe I would not have done some of the dumb shit I did. But I have to deal with all of the consequences anyway.

  4. congrats to Erin on the newest release! My brother and I are adopted and only 9 months apart so the "big" brother thing didn't really come into play very much :) Thanks for sharing!

  5. I have two older brothers and one older sister. It wasn't until I was an adult that my oldest brother thought he could play "BIG BROTHER". Too funny! NOT!
