Writing between the wines…
A question I get asked constantly is how I come up with the crazy antics that I include in my books. The answer is that most of it has happened to either me or a friend! While you may be reading between a few wines, I’m writing between them. I’ve been known to go on a girlie night, get a bit tipsy and take out my notepad and start jotting things down. At first my friends thought it was fun, but now they’re scared what I’m going to put in it. The amount of times I’ve drunkenly declared ‘THAT is going in the book!’
The next day the many ideas I’ve jotted down can be completely unintelligible, but the interaction alone with my hilarious friends gets my writing going. It's easy to write about fun friendships when you’re constantly snorting wine out of your nose, from giggling with your own.
Many people comment that reading my books is like curling up and catching up with your best friends. I really set out to make you feel that way – I want you to be involved and invested in their futures. Everyone knows a Poppy or a Jazz, so it's easy to relate to and cringe at the endless embarrassing situations.
When older relatives tell me they intend on reading my books I inwardly cringe. It feels like they’re looking into my life, as it's all so personal to me. But ultimately anyone that has ever laughed so hard they’ve wet themselves is a kindred spirit of mine. Read my books, but wear a Tena lady first.
