Night Huntress, the series at a glance

The Night Huntress series is about half-vampire Cat Crawfield, a vampire slayer who’s been raised to believe that all vampires are evil until she is forced to team up with a Master vampire named Bones to stop a bigger evil. As the series progresses Cat realizes she doesn’t know as much about vampires as she thought, and that being half-vampire doesn’t mean she’s evil.

She navigates a world of ghouls, vampires, ghosts, murderous fathers, governments agencies and a mother that harbors a hatred for all vampires, while trying to deal with her feelings and relationship with Bones and working to stay alive. The series is dark, humorous, and incredibly sexy.

The Night Huntress vampires can walk in daylight and have no aversions to the usual vampire myths of crosses, garlic, holly water or wooden stakes and ghouls look like you and me but have a diet of raw meat, you will also come across ghosts, some with powers some without, demons that can shape-shift and possess others and scary dark magic.

From Jeaniene regarding the series: Expect action, humor, passion, love, betrayal, and sometimes darkness in the Night Huntress series. The average person can’t go through life without those things happening to them, so my series won’t, either. But with my series, it’s balancing all that and a bunch of fangs, too.Rachel Vincent’s Blog

There are nine novels under contract with two (This Side of the GraveOne Grave at a Time) being released this year along with a holiday themed Cat & Bones anthology being release in the winter!

Jeaniene Frost has also written a spin-off to the series, Night Huntress World, which features side characters as main characters.
Each book is a stand-alone and runs parallel to the main series. FDoC & EkoD falls between NH books 4 & 5.

  • First Drop of Crimson – Featuring Spade and Denise (02/09/10)
  • Eternal Kiss of Darkness – Featuring Mencheres and Kira (07/27/10)
She is contracted for two books featuring Vlad as well, the first one planned to be released in 2012. Her currents plans are to write both books back-to-back.

Jeaniene has often said that the idea for the series first came to her in a dream. There was a man and woman arguing and she just knew that the woman was half-vampire while the man a full vampire. In her dream the man was mad at the woman for leaving him.
Coming up with who those dream figures were; why the woman left the man even when not wanting to, why they existed in the first place, became her first book, Halfway to the Grave. It took Jeaniene four months to write that first book and two years before it was even accepted by an editor.
She has also mentioned that Cat and Bones will have a HEA at the end of the series but it may also entail some stumbling blocks along the way to get to that HEA. Which, if you’ve read any of the books in the series you know that Cat & Bones road has been filled with bumps and potholes.

The series summed up in Jeaniene’s words: A half-vampire with an attitude teams up for, and then falls in love with, a Master vampire who shows her that there’s more to the undead world than she realizes. Larissa’s Bookish Life

  1. Hi Crystal!

To describe the series in sentence: One of the hottest, sexiest thrill seeking roller coaster ride for paranormal romance readers who want to transcend into a different world and stay there.

I LOVE the whole mythology that Jeaniene created. It has the elements of the paranormal but twists it to make it believable that you kind of wished they were real.

  2. OH Crystal! I loved Halfway To The Grave but I havent been able to get my hands on the rest of the series and Its bugging the hell outta me! I need to know what happens lol!

Thank you for sharing your love of an amazing series!

  3. My first blog post EVER was about this series, and I AM SO FREAKING EXCITED about book #5! Is anyone else going to the book signing in Maryland on the 19th? I am roadtripping it there that morning. Hope to see some of you there!!!

    -Linds, bibliophile brouhaha

  4. This is going to be hard. Just 1 sentence, I am going to try but it'll probably suck lol.

Cat half vampire, half human, vampire slayer finds herself in love with a sexy vampire-together they make one kick ass team and one crazy hot romance.

I love these books. All of them are just crazy good. I can not wait for this latest book to come out.

  5. I have yet to read this series, I know what is wrong with me??? *hangs head in shame* It's at the top of my TBR list though, and am hoping to get started on it soon, I've heard such good things. I love paranormal and I love my vampires, but I also love having things be switched around and outside the norm. There are so many vampire books among the masses that sometimes a story can melt into another. I like having one stand out and having it be unique that it stands out in my mind above all the others

  6. I haven't read the series yet, but I love when an author changes up the vampire myth and gives you a new take on it.

    I'm from USA

  7. i love this books series... it's like once you read the first book you're hooked.

  8. Cat, a kick-ass dhampir, falls in love with the enemy and they endure many trials in an attempt to stay together.

I adore these books! I can't get enough of them.

  9. To describe the series in one sentence is hard... but I'll give it a shot, how about: Awesome series that have the best of both urban fantasy and paranormal romance worlds, with a kick-ass, snarkingly funny half-vampire herione.

  10. IT's hard to describe it in only one sentence =) I could talk about Night Huntress for hours (I'm always getting on my friends' nerves with it xD).

The enemy vampire man become Cat's unbearably passionate lover.

  11. Just 13 days more, I think I can make it. I already have the book pre-ordered, of course, but now comes the worry "Will it arrive on time?!ARGH!"

I didn't know the "Four Dukes and a Devil" anthology had anything to do with the series!! I feel like such a bad fan.. it's okay, I'm running out and buying my copy TODAY (or rather, TONIGHT since I am currently at work..)

  12. "Just when you think you've got it all figured out, a hunk of a life time, walks in to your life, and shoots it all to hell."
I've had the great pleasure of reading every book and savoring every word. To be able to pull the reader in,to the extent that Ms. Frost does, is just amazing and scary.

  15. Wow, you all are creative. Notice I didn't put my own sentence up there, LoL. I couldn't do it without too many amazing & Bones & *sigh* & awesome & Bones & get the point!

@Linds - I wish! I was hoping since Jeaniene lived in FL she's have some dates with Pamela down here but I'll keep my fingers crossed for One Grave at a Time.

  19. I haven't read any of this series, but it's on my TBR list. It's fine with my for authors to make changes about vampires. It's their book.

  20. I will use Jeaniene's own words because they are true, they are the first things that came to mind, and I couldn't have said it better myself! "A dark world in which monsters exist and they are humorous, snarky, sexy, sometimes romantic (depending on the character), and just down right awesome and bad ass!!" *_*

  21. oops!! Forgot to say that I am in the US and to add my email!

  22. I'm from the US, and I think the series in one sentence?

    "Bones is mine." :)
