He awakened a need within her… Cole is successful beyond his dreams. He can have any woman he wants, but there’s only one he can’t stop thinking about. His childhood sweetheart, Renita. He’s never forgotten his first taste of innocent love and the desire that consumed them—or the pain he brought upon her… But now she belongs to another… Her long ago brush with submission awakened a longing in Ren that drove her to walk the darker edge of desire. She’s become a beautiful woman at ease with her sexuality and unapologetic about her need for a dominant man. When Cole finds her again, he’s gutted that she belongs to another. Ren’s current master agrees to give her to Cole for a short time, but then she must return to his keeping. And though Cole agrees to this bargain, he knows he will never be able to let Ren go again…

Kelly's Thoughts:

I have to admit, I struggled with this book.  At first, I really loved it.  As I kept reading, I started to question things here and there.  And by the end, I was a bit disappointed.

Ren was an interesting character.  Submissive through and through.  Conflicted, honest, passionate, and loyal.  Her turmoil was present throughout the entire book.

Cole was a bit irritating.  He was a great dominant in the bedroom, but overall he seemed immature.  He walked away from Ren, and never got over her.  When she showed back up, he was like a kid throwing a tantrum over his favorite toy.  While he surely loved Ren, his obsession with having her again seemed self-fulfilling.  It was almost as if he'd rather her be with him, even if she was happier with someone else.  It was frustrating to read.

Lucas was probably my favorite character.  Mature, dominant, and controlled.  Always taking charge of the situation, but never losing composure.  He is my ideal alpha.  I could almost hear his calm, soothing voice as he talked to Ren.  And he was so good to her.  He never lost patience, never got angry, even when she admitted having feelings for Cole.  He really seemed to have every interest in her well being, and acted accordingly.  He would sooner sacrifice his own happiness to ensure Ren's.

The story was an erotic twist on the age old love-triangle.  Cole is Ren's past love, Lucas is her current.  I love that the two men are so different, and that Ren loves each of them for different reasons.  Though, my preference is Lucas, I feel like her love for both men was believable and deeply passionate.  My difficulty was believing that these two men would so calmly discuss who would have her, as if they were sharing the sports section of the newspaper.  The story centers around a master/slave relationship, so ownership is understood, but it almost seemed callous the way they decided her future.

The end was probably the most disappointing.  Without including spoilers, it just didn't seem believable.  I will leave it at that.

  1. I was also disappointed, in no small measure by how much I've liked Cole in the other books. I was excited for his story. And yeah. No way about the ending.
