Real Life Navy Seal Wife and Author Anne Elizabeth Interview & #Giveaway!

Dog tags.

See, I knew that would be all that needed to be said to get your attention today. Let's welcome contemporary (military) romance author Anne Elizabeth to the blog!

Lexi: Anne congrats on landing such a HOT cover! It wasn’t until the second or third glance that I saw the dog tags. So, does the picture match what you envisioned for Daniel?

Anne: Absolutely! Sourcebooks, Inc. designed a gorgeous cover! Dan is a very lean Navy SEAL. He’s basically brawn, brains, and pure dedication to his bride. How’s that for sex appeal?

Lexi: Once a Seal does something very few romance books do, it begins with a newly married couple. I have been happily married for a handful of years and can tell you that fact alone makes me want to pick up this book. So many books talk about the heart pounding courting period, but what happens after the ‘happily ever after’? Did you have a hard time deciding when to start your story, pre-HEA or after the I-Do’s?

Anne: The story evolved naturally... Fans ask me all the time what it is like to be a Navy SEAL wife, so I approached my editor Leah Hultenschmidt with the concept of focusing on married life. We knew going into this project that the story was going to be majorly out-of-the-romance-box, but Leah was very supportive. For me, it was ideal to start the book with a wedding and dive into the chaos that happens to so many wives. This baptism by fire is something I feel many individuals can relate to, and I hope they enjoy the journey as much as I did writing it.

Lexi:  As a Navy wife yourself you must have had no problem coming up with the challenges that face Aria and Daniel. Do you feel any extra attachment to your military books?

Anne: I’m very attached to my main characters; probably because my husband and I are involved in the SEAL community. I do a ton of extra research and try to capture the ethos and spirit of the military life. I feel my job is to honor them as well as entertain fans; and, I work my tail off to bring authenticity without betraying any secrets, of course.

Lexi: Maybe your inside view can help pinpoint something for us.  Do you know what it is about military men that hold us so spell bound?

Anne: Their confidence, commitment, courage, and integrity blow me away. Through the worst of the worst, they keep rising and conquering and never surrender.

Lexi: Good answer!

Aria sounds spell bound at the same time slapped upside the head with reality. Huh, real life! Well done Anne! Congrats on the release of Once a Seal, and a big thank you for writing about married couples. Thanks for stopping by today!

Anne: Thank you for having me on Reading Between the Wines! It’s a pleasure and joy to stop by and I raise my glass to you all. HOOYAH!

  1. I really enjoyed Anne's first SEAL book. I think they're attractive to many because they put their lives on the line for the rest of us.

  2. Based on my own circumstances growing up in a military household and hanging out with other kids in their basehousing homes seeing their parents too, I think the appeal is for many reasons. There is the dedication to duty, desire to serve and protect their countries, excel, but I also found that when my dad was in the home that he kept everyone safe, he was focused on us particularly my mom and he was stern and gentle. He is honorable and trustworthy, he can be counted on. He is respectful and hardworking. And oh so many more things.
Thanks for the interview ladies and for the giveaway opportunity.

  9. Military men sacrifice so much to serve their country. Time away from loved ones, their family that can never be gotten back. They're also fit & strong, not only on the outside but inside.
