The Melody In Our Hearts by Roberta Capizzi (Guest Post/Giveaway)

Book tour

“…and they lived happily ever after.”

Aren’t these the words we always loved to read on the last page of a good book? It seems like all the best fairy tales our parents used to tell us when we were children, and all the Disney movies we used to watch made it quite clear that the happy ending was a must – and quite easy to achieve, too. With hindsight I can only say: How deceitful!

Okay, I guess maybe I was too naïve, but I grew up thinking that happy endings not only were possible, but they were the rule. Well, maybe Prince Charming became extinct sometimes during the Ice Age and nobody bothered to inform us – or Disney screenwriters, for that matter – but I’ve come to understand pretty soon that happy endings rarely exist in real life, and that life definitely isn’t a fairy tale.

So what did I do when I realized it? Well, I guess I could’ve cried, jumped off a bridge, pulled out my hair, become a nun, moved to a desert isle in the middle of the Pacific Ocean spending the days talking to a football named Wilson, you name it. Instead, I decided to write. If the real world wasn’t quite like I’d hoped it would be, why couldn’t I simply create one of my own? A world where happy endings exist and make it all worthwhile? So when I couldn’t find a happy ending I liked, well, I simply started writing my own.
Life hardly ever gives us happy endings, so the last thing I want when I’m reading a book is to end up feeling as if my heart had been crumpled up like a piece of paper; I want to close a book with a smile on my face, not with swollen eyes and an aching heart. We get enough of that already in real life, thank you very much.

For instance, don’t you just hate it when you get to the very last chapter of a book and one of the two main characters dies or somehow leaves the story? I mean, it really leaves me feeling empty. As a reader, I always feel lost after I’ve finished reading a good book, because if the writer did a good job, I most probably lost myself in that fictional world and lived the characters’ lives. If there’s no Happily Ever After, I almost feel deceived, as if the author had intentionally created that ending just to piss me off.

So now, as a writer myself, I always get to have my HEA because it’s I who decides what’s going to happen next. I might keep you hanging for a while, but if there’s one thing you can be sure of, when you’re reading my novels, is that you’ll always get your HEA eventually, no matter what.

Doctor Valerie Fogarty studied hard to become a competent surgeon, but losing a patient during an operation made her throw everything out the window and now she can’t set foot into an operating room anymore. Until her best friend Ryan is brought into the ER on a stretcher, fighting for his life after a terrible car accident and she’s the only one who can save him. Meeting him as a teenager in their hometown in Ireland was the turning point in her life and she knows she will never be able to live without him. Will her determination and skills be enough to save Ryan’s life?Jazz Star Ryan Wyler grew up in Dublin, with a dream of becoming a professional pianist and continuing the legacy of his musical hero, Frank Sinatra. When opportunity knocks and he’s offered the chance to pursue a real music career, he’s happy to accept it, unaware that what he’s actually accepting is a package deal he will have no control over. But when success keeps him away from Valerie, his best friend since adolescence, Ryan will have to question his choices. The melody in our hearts: A story about the value of true friendship, the power of dreams, and the unpredictability of love.

About the author:
Immag2619
An avid reader since her childhood years and being an only child, Roberta always enjoyed the company of her fictional friends from the children’s books she loved reading, while she dreamed of writing her own stories one day.It was when she discovered novels by authors Rosamunde Pilcher and Maeve Binchy in her teenage years that she realized it was time she put down in words the stories she had kept well hidden in her mind until then. What started as a hobby, soon turned into a real passion and a way of life, until she could no longer keep the stories to herself, and decided to get over her fears and share them with the world.Roberta lives in Italy, but her dream is to move out of her country and live either in a thatched cottage in the Irish countryside or in a country house with a swing on the back porch, somewhere in the United States, where she would love to spend her days writing novels as a full-time job, and maybe one day even get as far as writing a screenplay for a movie. She is already working on a second novel, while jotting down ideas for more as they pop into her mind.

To answer Julie's question: it is a standalone book but I would love to write more about Valerie and Ryan so I'm thinking I might write book number two. Let's see how things go.
