An Unexpected Picnic on the Beach
I’d like to say a big thank-you to Crystal and the gang at Reading Between the Wines for letting me play here today. They suggested I talk about picnics, and I instantly flashed back to college and a fun picnic I had on the beach. I went to Pepperdine, which is in Malibu and near the ocean.
So, a bunch of friends and I were at a restaurant (it was called C&P’s at that time), and one of them had other friends from USC there. We all had a drink and had some fun. Soon and I walked out the door with one friend because we were making plans for jogging the next day. I went back inside. The entryway to C&P’s was a bit odd since it had two phones – and they were on opposing sides of the vestibule. As I walked back in, one rang.
Seriously. How odd is that?
So, being the curious type, I picked it up. This sweet guy from USC asked how I was doing, and if I’d like to go for a picnic. I turned, and he was on the other phone.
How clever is that?
So, we grabbed to-go boxes and walked out to the ocean (just in front of the restaurant.) No, I didn’t take off with a strange guy. Our friends were all up on the deck.
But man, it was fun. And as the sun settled, a gorgeous sunset colored the sky. He was a good guy, and we actually ended up being pretty good friends. In fact, I ultimately set him up with the friend I went jogging with, and now they have four kids. Life is good.
In AGAINST THE WALL, city-girl Sophie Smith has to ride a horse to view the land and ends up having a picnic with cowboy Jake Lodge, who she’s trying to convince to back her plan. The picnic is romantic, but they’re locked in a Hepburn/Tracey situation. How fun is that?
So, let me ask you this: Have you ever been on a picnic, and if so, how was it?
I’d like to give away an AGAINST THE WALL coffee mug and spiral notebook to one randomly chosen commenter here. There’s also an overall blog tour prize of a Kindle Fire that will go to one lucky commenter. Have a fantastic week!
(Make sure to leave your email address with your comment!)
Rebecca is giving away the choice of a Kindle Fire HD or a $199 Amazon Gift Card! The rafflecopter code is below. Please share it on the blog post if possible.a Rafflecopter giveaway
