Thank you so much for joining us during our 4th of July event, Read Hot and Boom! We hope that you have enjoyed it and a big thanks to the authors for taking the time out this holiday to stop by! To wrap our event up I would like to welcome Jeannette Murray, a.k.a. Kat Murray, joining us with her new release of The Officer and the Secret

I’m A Yankee Doodle Dandy…

I’m not, actually. Well, I’m a Yankee, I guess, since I think that technically applies to all Americans. But not a doodle, and not a dandy…

However, I can appreciate the fourth of July like any other red-blooded American. Fireworks don’t really get me as much as they used to, but the opportunity to watch the light display through my daughter’s eyes now is fantastic. It reminds me of when my family would go do the fireworks thing…

My parents would drive us up to the top of this parking garage, where the top layer was open to the sky. We’d get there early and face our car directly toward the light show, but it would always still be light then. Cars would come in slowly, but there was still plenty of space to run around and play while we waited. Or, being the nerdy child I was, I would often bring a book and read on a blanket while waiting for the sky to dim enough to start the show. We’d crank the car radio, break out the lawn chairs, and wait for the city’s display of fireworks to begin. My mom would pack a cooler of snacks and drinks, and my sister would cower in the car when the booms started up. (She had ear troubles…also, she’s a sissy. ;) )

Man, those were good memories. And I can’t wait to provide Tot with the same sort of memories I had growing up.

How did you guys celebrate the fourth of July growing up?

  1. I've always adored fireworks, so the 4th is one of my favorite holidays. When I was a young child, the fireworks were at a local lake. I remember lying on the grass and having them explode right above me (or so it seemed). I was never scared of the noise, just fascinated by the lights.

  2. Congrats to Jeanette on the new release. Looking forward to learning more about Veronica's mysterious past. One thing we always used to do was to head over to watch the Macy's fireworks display.
