Lexi: Alright you LOTU fans out there, you are going to LOVE our guest today. And for the rest of you who are going, “What the hell is LOTU?” do we have a great new series for you. Welcome Gena Showalter!
GS: Thank you so much for having me!
Lexi: From the very beginning when you brought us Maddox I have been sucked into the Lords of the Underworld (LOTU for you newbies) series. You bring a great mix of paranormal romance with some fantasy/UF elements and mythology. Did you start out with all of this in your mind or did it evolve as you began writing?
GS: Everything evolved as I began writing. I started with the grain of an idea – an immortal warrior is killed every night only to wake up the next morning knowing he has to die again – and everything else grew from there.
Lexi: The LOTU series aren’t the only books you have out, your Alien Huntress series is a smash as well. (oh don’t worry, she has three other series. Go check them out!) Do you have a favorite, or does it happen to be your current WIP?
GS: Yeah, it’s usually whatever I’m working on at the time LOL Right now I’m so in love with the Angels of the Dark. I just finished Thane’s book (Burning Dawn) and oh, he makes me shiver! He’s the dark, brooding type with all kinds of emotion and lust simmering under the surface. Also, I just turned in the page passes for Black and Blue, and I was reminded of just how much I love the irreverent Blue. And his heroine, Evie, she’s the girl I want to be when I grow up. Adore her!
Up next, I will fall in love with the White Rabbit Chronicles all over again as I write the third book in the series, stalking through Alabama, hunting and killing zombies with a group of high school slayers.
Lexi: I can say it, the Lords are my favorite. And now we get Kane’s story! Though you have your work cut out for you to top Strider’s, and Maddox...and Paris. How about all of them? Do you get nervous before a release, wondering if fans will drool and faint over your newest demon possessed god?
GS: I used to make myself sick, I’d get so nervous before a release. Now, I try to take everything in stride. I remind myself that opinions are subjective. What one person loves another will hate, and vice versa. I just have to keep my eye on the prize.
Lexi: Your writing stands for itself. But you also get great covers. Smexy men, shirtless, classic Showalter books. Though I admit, Last Kiss Goodnight is my favorite. So much emotion in that cover. Pick one, what is your favorite cover?
GS: Last Kiss Goodnight is one of my favorites, too! I think the Through the Zombie Glass cover is fun. And I’m a huge fan of the Black and Blue cover. Oh, oh. I’ve seen the concept for the Burning Dawn cover and it’s going to be smoldering! Really fits the personalities of the characters.
Lexi: If I could I would make posters and hang them up by my computer. Since my computer sits in my living room and I wouldn’t want to embarrass my husband I will just keep buying your books and leaving them laying around. Thanks for stopping by Gena! We can’t wait for The Darkest Craving and we hope to see you back here again soon!
GS: Thank you so much for having me! I had a blast.
