It’s Christmastime at the Chateau.

Waiting for his lover to return is torment, but the sculptor, Antoine, plans to exploit Savannah's return to the art colony to the fullest, acting out his fantasies each night. Savannah has spent much time in Boston while she finishes her degree, but they will have weeks together to make up for lost time.

When Savannah doesn't disembark the ferry, Antoine fears the worst. Something must have happened to her, something terrible. He’s made recent enemies after wolf shifters had come to the island and battles ensued.

Antoine’s plans drastically change as he goes to find Savannah, caught in a Dark Pursuit.

Meet Antoine, the gargoyle shifter turned vampire, and his poet lover, Savannah, in this short story in the Chateau Seductions series.

Linda's Thoughts:

She shivered as a blustery wind rushed past. She’d made a mistake in returning to the city. She should’ve stayed in the castle with Antoine. She’d be warm in his arms right now, instead of being held prisoner.

In Dark Pursuit by Lisa Carlisle, my favorite couple in the wonderful dark, erotic Chateau Seduction series return for a Christmas tale! While I have thoroughly enjoyed the tales of the other two couples in this series, the story of Antoine, a gargoyle-turned-vampire, and Savannah, a human who means the world to him, hold my heart! I inhaled their holiday short story!

Previously, in a difficult separation for both of them, Savannah had departed from the island and her beloved, Antoine, to attend graduate classes at the university. Savannah is a poet and earning her degree is important to her. No matter how difficult the separation is for him, Antoine has sworn to support her in following her dream. But… the Chateau is a cold, dreary place without her.

As the story opens, it is to be Antoine’s and Savannah’s first Christmas together. Antoine is beyond excited at the thought of holding Savannah in his arms again and making up for lost time during the month she will have off between semesters. He’s even decorated the tree – something the manager of his Chateau has never seen him do. However, when the evening ferry arrives and Savannah does not disembark, he panics, fearing for her safety.

At the same time, Savannah worries that she will never see another Christmas and will never feel the arms of her beloved about her again. She wishes she had stayed at his side as he had desired. Things look bleak, indeed, for this couple.

This story is sweet and suspenseful. You already know that I love the characters. It’s the best to read about them again. In another plus: other previous favorite characters play important roles. I thoroughly enjoyed catching up with gargoyle rock star Dante and Gina (Dark Muse) and Carmeron and Nadya (Dark Stranger).

Following please find a few of my favorite quotes from Dark Pursuit:

Better undead than dead.
---

He lowered his head until his lips hovered centimeters above hers. This was the moment he craved. This heated moment – each of them lingering, waiting, wanting. He loved the excitement of the build-up almost as much as the conquest itself. As he’d told her many times, the greater the anticipation, the sweeter the reward.
---

“When we wake, it’s officially Christmas Eve.”
“Good. Because I have something special to give you.”
She turned over her shoulder and cocked an eyebrow. “Thought you just did.”
He chuckled, a deep and throaty sound. “Something else.”

This is a fast-paced, action-packed story. While it can be read as a stand-alone, if that is your preference, please know that the characters have developed and the storyline has progressed throughout the entire series.  Therefore, Dark Pursuit will make more sense if you have read the series in order. The series is beyond-awesome and Dark Pursuit is a great addition to it. If you enjoy steamy paranormal romances, I highly recommend that you check out Lisa Carlisle’s Chateau Seductions series.
