Darkening Around Me by Barbara J. Hancock (Guest Post/Giveaway)

Please give a warm welcome to author, Barbara J. Hancock!

Dark and deliciously dangerous

I love playing in the shadows where ruination and redemption meet. There’s a line my hero’s walk between hopelessness and salvation and I’m completely obsessed by that razor’s edge.

My friends and followers on Twitter and Facebook know I’m taken with Tom Hiddleston’s delicious portrayal of the God of Mischief, Loki. While Loki is a villain not a hero, he completely captures the imagination with the line he walks. Frigga adored him in spite of his…issues. He sets aside all that drives him to avenge her death, yet he was the one who told the killer where to find her.  Even worse, could he have experienced his triumphant moment on the throne at the end of the movie if Frigga had still been alive?

Walking that razor’s edge.

I love creating heroes with one foot in the sunlight and one in the blackest night. Harlequin E Shivers has given me the perfect place for my kind of hero…one who might kiss or kill, but never be mundane.

There’s an element of danger whenever we lower our defenses to fall in love. That danger is heightened as intimacy grows. First kiss…first touch…first glimpse inside our lover’s heart. Gothic Romances explore those dangers with stories that push the envelope of what is damnation and what is deliverance.

In DARKENING AROUND ME, Miles O’Keefe is a sculptor driven by an obsession that could kill him. Samantha Knox has faced violence and death and come out stronger on the other side. But will she be strong enough?

Dark and dangerous characters…do you love them, hate them or love to hate them? I wonder, could Loki ever be redeemed?

  6. I think that's one of the main things I like about romance. Especially with dark characters. Their journey to redemption. As an author, it's so interesting to imagine how you can get a hero or heroine from their darkest point into the light!

  7. Loki would never be redeemed. He's far too set in his
    mischievous ways, but sometimes
the dark and mysterious ones are the most intriguing ones
    and sometimes the odd ones
do manage to get redeemed. Definitely don't hate them, find
    them fascinating.
