Dual #Review: Double Time by Olivia Cunning

Double Time (Sinners on Tour, #3)Title: Double Time
Series: Sinners on Tour #5
Author: Olivia Cunning
Format: Paperback, 384 pages
Published: November 6th 2012 by Sourcebooks Casablanca
ISBN: 1402271514

Reviewer: Crystal and Crystal L
Rating: 4-4.5/5

Olivia Cunning delivers the perfect blend of steamy sex, heartwarming romance, and a wicked sense of humor in this menage story featuring the hottest guy in the Sinners band.
Trey Mills, the notoriously sexy Sinners rhythm guitarist, gives up his bisexual lifestyle and is swept into a hot, heady romance with Reagan Elliot, a female rock star sensation. But when Trey encounters Reagan's sexy bisexual roommate, Ethan Conner, he can no longer deny who he is or what he wants. Reagan heartily agrees to a solution that opens up a hot new world of sexual experience--and love--with the two men she wants the most.

Crystal Thoughts:
***NOTE: Double Time was released out of order. Trey's story is actually book #5 in the series and reads as such, so there are some spoilers for Jace (Hot Ticket) and Eric's (Wicked Beat) books.

Tour: Enforcer's Redemption by Carrie Ann Ryan (Guest Post/Giveaway)

Today I would like to give a warm welcome back to author Carrie Ann Ryan who is joining us this time around with her book, Enforcer's Redemption!

Villain vs. Hero: What Demon?

Sometimes it’s easy to find the villain in the story. He’s the bad guy with the gun right? What if you have a demon, but then you have another. But the second one is an inner demon who seems to take the story to a whole new direction.
That’s what happened to me with Enforcer’s Redemption.
Caym, the demon in the series, has always been the bad guy. Corbin, the rival werewolf, the other sadistic bad guy.
I had thought my hero would be Adam, the wolf who had lost everything and was in need of a happy ending.
But no.
It turned out that Adam’s inner demon—his pain, was my other bad guy.
Talk about changing a story.
Instead of a story where things blow up, people are killed, and love conquers all, it became a story of healing, and finding a way to work through the pain as it becomes all consuming. Oh yeah, and things blow up and people are killed…so that love conquers all.
Adam surprised me. He was the villain to me at some parts. He wasn’t the nice guy.
He was a butt.
Then he healed.
Or rather, Bay, his mate, healed him.
Thank God.
So yes, the villain is Caym. The villain is Corbin. But inner demons are just as prominent. I love reading about that. Who knew I’d write it too?

QUESTION OF THE WEEK: What are the Top 5 Books that you are looking forward to in 2013?

Tour: Broken Promise by Tara Fox Hall (Guest Post)

Please give a warm welcome to author, Tara Fox Hall, who is joining us on tour for her book, Broken Promise!

A huge thank you to Reading Between the Wines for having me here today!

I’m here today to promote Broken Promise, the second book in my paranormal romance Promise Me series. Here is the blurb:
Shocked at Danial’s betrayal, Sarelle returns to her old home to consider her options. Yet even as Sar plans a reconciliation with Danial, Terian arrives, confessing his desire. When Theo witnesses Terian and Sar kiss, he angrily confronts Sar, leading to startling consequences. Will Sar’s heart choose Danial, Terian,…or Theo?

Wine plays an interesting role in my series. My heroine Sar’s tastes run to red wine, as she demonstrates in several passages. Her choice is usually dry, full bodied, and spicy. Cabernet, Merlot and Shiraz are her favorites, boxed or bottled. Readers will often see her indulging in a glass or two, especially after trying times, such as when her good friend (and half-demon) Terian confesses his desire for her.

Heat Wave series by Alannah Lynne (Guest Post/Giveaway)

Please give a warm welcome to contemporary and erotic romance author, Alannah Lynne!

I’ve always found the holidays to be a lot like the “It” person in Hide and Seek: Ready or not, here they come! Unfortunately, I usually fall into the “Not” category.

I’m a terrible procrastinator and have always put things off until I can see the last individual grains of sand draining from the hour glass. Whether it be studying for tests, which meant staying up all night, cramming; or writing a book and working non-stop for the last four weeks in order to meet the deadline; or writing a blog post *looks around not-so-innocently*… I’ve always waited until the last minute.

When it comes to holiday shopping, though, it makes sense to me to wait until a few weeks before the big day for several reasons. The first being, I don’t have a clue what anyone wants until December. Secondly, Even after I’ve gotten them what they asked for, if I see something I think they need or would like, I’ll get that for them too. If I started shopping months in advance, I’d always be in shopping mode – which means I’d always be buying and would be completely broke!

Our attraction was unmistakable, almost beyond control, but as much as I ached to be his, I feared the pressures of his demands. Submitting to Damien meant I had to bare the darkest truth about my past—and risk breaking us apart.

Celia reluctantly agrees to help Misha, the handsome leader of an infected vampire family. But Aric, the head of the werewolf pack determined to destroy Misha's family to keep the region safe, warns Celia to stay out of the fight. Caught between two hot alphas, Celia must find a way to please everyone, save everyone, and oh yeah, not lose her heart to the wrong guy—or die a miserable death. Crystal L's Thoughts:
Let me tell you, I LOVE when I get to read new paranormal concepts. It's like handing my a literary chocolate cake and saying, 'It's all yours honey'! Woo-hoo! This book was a delightful mix of your standard werewolves, sprinkled with some interesting no often seen wereraccons and wereweasels, topped off with a bloodlustvampire disease that I assure you is being spread in the most interesting way, all of it to combine and make you want to reado THIS BOOK. It features four sisters who range from tooth cavity sweet, to kickass, to feistylike our main girl Celia, to the snarky sister who is my favorite.

Tour: The Haunting of a Duke by Chasity Bowlin (Guest Post)

Please give a warm welcome to romance author, Chasity Bowlin, who is joining us on her tour for The Haunting of a Duke

If I could go back in time....

That is a really hard question for me to answer.  Obviously, I love the Regency era.  It speaks to me on a number of levels.  And being that I have no waist, the fashion of that period is perfect for me.  But I also love the Victorian era, where it didn’t matter if you had a waist or not, because you could fake it with a corset.  Still, the Regency era was more free I think.  There were rules governing behavior, but they were more easily broken and more easily forgiven.

Guest Review: Iced by Karen Marie Moning - 5 Wine Glasses!

Iced (Dani O'Malley, #1)Iced
(Fever #6)
by Karen Marie Moning
Hardcover, First Edition, 495 pages
Published October 30th 2012 by Delacorte Press
ISBN 0385344406
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Karen Marie Moning comes the first book in her hotly anticipated new urban paranormal trilogy, set in the world of her blockbuster Fever series.
The year is 1 AWC—After the Wall Crash. The Fae are free and hunting us. It’s a war zone out there, and no two days are alike. I’m Dani O’Malley, the chaos-filled streets of Dublin are my home, and there’s no place I’d rather be.
Dani “Mega” O’Malley plays by her own set of rules—and in a world overrun by Dark Fae, her biggest rule is: Do what it takes to survive. Possessing rare talents and the all-powerful Sword of Light, Dani is more than equipped for the task. In fact, she’s one of the rare humans who can defend themselves against the Unseelie. But now, amid the pandemonium, her greatest gifts have turned into serious liabilities.
Dani’s ex–best friend, MacKayla Lane, wants her dead, the terrifying Unseelie princes have put a price on her head, and Inspector Jayne, the head of the police force, is after her sword and will stop at nothing to get it. What’s more, people are being mysteriously frozen to death all over the city, encased on the spot in sub-zero, icy tableaux.
When Dublin’s most seductive nightclub gets blanketed in hoarfrost, Dani finds herself at the mercy of Ryodan, the club’s ruthless, immortal owner. He needs her quick wit and exceptional skill to figure out what’s freezing Fae and humans dead in their tracks—and Ryodan will do anything to ensure her compliance.
Dodging bullets, fangs, and fists, Dani must strike treacherous bargains and make desperate alliances to save her beloved Dublin—before everything and everyone in it gets iced.

Crystal L's Thoughts:
Holy jumping jehoshaphat Batman! Karen Marie Moning has done it again! We're back in Fever world, except this time we have Dani's perspective instead of Mac's. I was skeptical about how much I was going to like a fourteen year old girls point of view, but I ended up enjoying immensely. We find Dani still avoiding Mac like the plague because she killed Mac's sister Alina. She also has an immense amount of guilt about it, but is sure Rowena did something to compel her to kill the woman, she just can't prove it. We finally get to meet Dancer, who is a seventeen year old genius.

Yes, Ma’am
Southern Gentlemen Do It Better
By Hope Tarr

When I sat down to write the draft of OPERATION CINDERELLA, the launch to my “Suddenly Cinderella” contemporary fairytale themed romance series for Entangled Publishing, my hero, Ross Mannon started talking to me—immediately. Ordinarily that’s a good thing, a really good thing. Hell, if my characters will narrate the story, my ego and I will happily take a backseat—and dictation.

Only in this case Ross was speaking in what was unmistakably, unequivocally a Southern accent – a Texas accent, specifically. The book, however, is set in primarily in Washington, DC. What was my big, strong, rough-and-tumble Texan doing in the land of lobbyists and Beltway Bandits?

Viviana’s Review:

Judging a book by its cover (yeah, don’t give me that look, we all do it!) it didn’t look like much and to be honest, the “for Nice People” didn’t make me want to take this book serious and it actually bothered me.  Are people who practice BDSM not nice? Of course not!! Jeez! A better title would have been “Intro to BDSM” or “BDSM for Newbies” (okay, so that’s not really a good title, but it brings truth to the book!) or even “Curious about BDSM”. Well, you get the idea.

Character Interview:

Kiara walked into the Grand Lux Café at the Venetian Hotel and Casino, a ‘not-a-care-in-the-world’ air about her. Two guards accompanied her, but kept enough distance so she could move freely through the restaurant. After exchanging a few words with the hostess, she points me out and when her gaze meets mine, shesmiles in acknowledgement. There were a few stops to exchange pleasantries with patrons. Kiara indulged everyone’s request for photos with a smile. The only hint of discomfort I saw in the woman was when someone got a little too close for comfort, which I found amusing considering the rumors about the fae and the wolves and their preference for touch.

“MissEmerson?” Kiara's voice was soft. Not at all what I expected from a woman who was known for being a bit rough around the edges.

I stood and held out my hand to her. “Hi Miss O'Conaill, thanks for agreeing to this interview.”

Ooh lovely, thanks (he holds it up in thanks before taking a long gulp, leaving a frothy moustache temporarily behind). I'm good thanks. Got a long day ahead of me though. I'm off to Andilyse Island... it's gonna take four hours there and four hours back. But it'll be worth it.

SOMETIMES WHAT YOU COVET IS IMPOSSIBLE TO KEEP.
For werewolf Natalya Stravinsky, the supernatural is nothing extraordinary. What does seem strange is that she’s stuck in her hometown of South Toms River, New Jersey, the outcast of her pack, selling antiques to finicky magical creatures. Restless and recovering from her split with gorgeous ex-boyfriend, Thorn, Nat finds comfort in an unusual place: her obsessively collected stash of holiday trinkets. But complications pile up faster than her ornaments when Thorn returns home—and the two discover that the spark between them remains intense.
Before Nat can sort out their relationship, she must face a more immediate and dangerous problem. Her pack is under attack from the savage Long Island werewolves—and Nat is their first target in a turf war. Toss in a handsome wizard vying for her affection, a therapy group for the anxious and enchanted, and the South Toms River pack leader ready to throw her to the wolves, and it’s enough to give anybody a panic attack. With the stakes as high as the full moon, Nat must summon all of her strength to save her pack and, ultimately, herself.

Under Her Spell by Eliza Daly (Guest Post/Giveaway)

Today I would like to give a warm welcome to romance author, Eliza Daly!

My Cameo Appearances in Under Her Spell

I recently discovered Reading Between the Wines when I was following an author’s blog tour. The name of the blog hooked me--wine and reading, two of my favorite things. Wine makes an appearance in almost all my books, including my debut romance novel Under Her Spell. My characters tend to be red wine drinkers and lately they are really into Malbecs. This made me realize that mypersonality and quirks sometimes sneak into a book without me even realizing it. The following are several appearances I made inUnder Her Spell.

Enslaved by Elisabeth Naughton (Guest Post/Giveaway)

Today I am super excited to welcome back Elisabeth Naughton, author of the Eternal Guardian series! Elisabeth is joining us with her new release, Enslaved, and she has brought along a few guests to help her out. Please give them a warm welcome...

The Dreaded Underworld…or Not…

Thank so much to Reading Between the wines for inviting me to stop by today and talk about one of my very favorite places…the Underworld!

For those of you who don’t know me…I write the bestselling Eternal Guardians series about a group of gifted warriors all descended from the heroes of Greek mythology. They protect their realm and the human world from threats born of the Underworld, specifically one evil goddess with a bad attitude.

Book five, ENSLAVED, which released on November 6, 2012, is Gryphon’s book. Gryphon spent a little time being tortured in the Underworld so I’ve asked him to stop by today and give us a tour this very dark and special place. (FYI…He is not thrilled with this request. In fact, he’s downright defiant…so I’ve asked his heroine, Maelea, to help out.)

(Rescue Me #2)
by Kallypso Masters
ebook, 314 pages
Published September 29th 2011 by Kallypso Masters

Marc d'Alessio might own a BDSM club with his fellow military veterans, Adam and Damian, but he keeps all women at a distance. However, when Marc rescues beautiful Angelina Giardano from a disastrous first BDSM experience at the club, an uncharacteristic attraction leaves him torn between his safe, but lonely world, and a possible future with his angel.
Angelina leaves BDSM behind, only to have her dreams plagued by the Italian angel who rescued her at the club. When she meets Marc at a bar in her hometown, she can't shake the feeling she knows him, but has no idea why he reminds her of her angel.
When Marc's search-and-rescue partner, widower Luke Denton, confides he believes Angelina is the angel his wife promised to send him, Marc is convinced she is meant for Luke. A painful incident from his past keeps Marc from letting any woman drive a wedge between him and a friend.
While Luke can provide Angelina with love and stability, Marc knows his friend can't satisfy her submissive needs. Marc offers one night to show her that BDSM is not about pain, but a power exchange with mutual trust and consent. But he knows he can't commit emotionally to anything more.
When the abusive Dom from Angelina's past threatens, Marc's protective instincts kick in; he must keep her safe. Again at the Masters at Arms Club, she turns the tables on him and turns his safe, controlled world upside down. (Book Two in the RESCUE ME series; follows introduction to series, MASTERS AT ARMS.)

Guest Review: (ARC) The Trouble With Fate by Leigh Evans - 5 Wine Glasses!

My name is Hedi Peacock and I have a secret. I’m not human, and I have the pointy Fae ears and Were inner-bitch to prove it. As fairy tales go, my childhood was damn near perfect, all fur and magic until a werewolf killed my father and the Fae executed my mother. I’ve never forgiven either side. Especially Robson Trowbridge. He was a part-time werewolf, a full-time bastard, and the first and only boy I ever loved. That is, until he became the prime suspect in my father’s death…
Today I’m a half-breed barista working at a fancy coffee house, living with my loopy Aunt Lou and a temperamental amulet named Merry, and wondering where in the world I’m going in life. A pretty normal existence, considering. But when a pack of Weres decides to kidnap my aunt and force me to steal another amulet, the only one who can help me is the last person I ever thought I’d turn to: Robson Trowbridge. And he’s as annoyingly beautiful as I remember. That’s the trouble with fate: Sometimes it barks. Other times it bites. And the rest of the time it just breaks your heart. Again…

Crystal L's Thoughts:
I have a new awesome series to follow! *Doing the book happy cabbage patch* The Trouble With Fate has an excellent jaded and snarky heroine named Heidi. She's half Fae and half Werewolf. Her father was murdered by a fellow werewolf, her mother murdered and twin brother kidnapped by the Fae. So it's needless to say that she doesn't have an overwhelming desire to be in touch with her familial roots. The only people she has left in her life now is her batshit crazy Aunt, who was her Mother's sister, and her amulet necklace, which is actually a very temperamental living object named Merry who likes to burn the crap out of her when it has temper tantrums.

An Infamous Marriage by Susanna Fraser (Guest Post/Giveaway)

Today I would like to give a warm welcome to author, Susanna Fraser, who is joining us on tour with her book, An Infamous Marriage!

For me, a big part of the Regency Era’s appeal is its overlap with the Napoleonic Era. Of the books I’ve sold so far (three published to date, another coming in 2013), all but one has had a military hero, and even in that book, A Marriage of Inconvenience, the war is never far away from the protagonists’ minds.

My new release, An Infamous Marriage, begins with my hero, Jack Armstrong, entering a marriage of convenience partly to secure a caretaker for his ailing mother in England while he serves with his regiment in Canada. It ends at Waterloo. While most of the action takes place in the brief peace before Napoleon’s return from exile, Jack always thinks of himself as a soldier, a warrior.

So what is it about the Napoleonic Era and soldier heroes for me? Here are my Top Five reasons:
