#Interview with Author Dianne Duvall of Awaken the Darkness + #Giveaway

Lexi: A few years ago, our guest said she believed vampires in stories would always be around, like zombies. And boy are we glad she was right, and is still writing them! Welcome back, Dianne Duvall!!

Thank you, Lexi! I’m very happy to be here. Thanks so much for helping me celebrate!

Lexi: I’m still hopping up and down with excitement from having read the blurb for your next Immortal Guardians series release, AWAKEN THE DARKNESS! I can’t wait to pick up Stanislav and Susan’s story! She digs him up, he has no memory, a little mystery and some excellent romance. How much fun was it to write the scene of Susan digging up Stanislav?

It was sooooo much fun. LOL. Poor Susan. She couldn’t understand why she was digging this huge hole or why she didn’t get the heck out of Dodge when she found what she thought was a body. I loved her reaction when she realized Stanislav was alive. Really every minute these two spent together thoroughly entertained me.

Lexi: Vampires will never be dead. Did we mention how much we love that you were right about that? And here we are with book eight of your series. Is there comfort, or a sense of returning to an old lover, when you step into writing an Immortal Guardian’s book?

Absolutely. One of the things I love to hear most from readers is that my Immortal Guardians feel like family to them, because it’s the same for me. They live in my head all the time… and sometimes do the funniest, craziest stuff up there.  So when I sit down to write a new story, I’m always excited to see where it will take me. And, of course, I love to see my immortals fall in love. The friendship. The flirting. The laughter. The teasing. The passion. All of it. I must admit, though, that it was particularly comforting to write AWAKEN THE DARKNESS. Much like Yuri’s story, I’ve wanted to write Stanislav’s ever since I finished NIGHT UNBOUND. But I had to wait for the right time.

Lexi: The blurb of AWAKEN THE DARKNESS is irresistible, and so is the cover. It’s so artful and the characters are strong and complement each other. Did you agonize over finding a match for Susan and Stanislav?

I’m so glad you like the cover! I love having total control over the artwork now that I’ve gone indie. But it’s always hard—agonizingly so as you suggested—to find a match for the heroes and heroines. As soon as I begin writing a story, images of the hero and heroine form in my head. For the cover of AWAKEN THE DARKNESS, I not only wanted models who resembled those mental images, I wanted models who could also demonstrate the strong personalities Stanislav and Susan possess and their ability to kick ass. That was quite a task.

Lexi: You know we have to ask…because as soon as we hit the end of AWAKEN THE DARKNESS we’re going to be begging for the next one. So, do you have plans for book nine?

Yes. I’ve already begun writing Immortal Guardians Book 9, which will feature Seth—the leader of the Immortal Guardians—as the hero. I’m going to be very nervous when I release that one, because it is by far the most requested book in the series. Even The Gifted Ones readers request it, because he appears in that series, too. So… yeah. I’m going to be nervous as release week approaches. But I’m already having a lot of fun writing it.

Lexi: We are so glad to have you on the blog again, Dianne. Congratulations on the release of AWAKEN THE DARKNESS. We are so happy for you and happy to have another excellent vampire romance!

Thank you, Lexi! I always love visiting with you. I hope you’ll enjoy Stanislav and Susan’s story.

Awaken the Darkness
(Immortal Guardians #8)
by Dianne Duvall
Kindle Edition, 414 pages
Publication: July 10th 2018 by Dianne Duvall
Return to the "utterly addictive" (RT Book Reviews), "fast-paced and humorous" (Publishers Weekly) world of New York Times bestselling author Dianne Duvall's Immortal Guardians.

He awakens encapsulated in dirt with no knowledge of how he came to be there. Riddled with injuries, he can remember neither his past nor who he is. Nor can he remember what he is. But surely no mortal man could survive being buried deep beneath the earth. All he knows with certainty is that the soothing voice and presence of the woman moving around above enables him to endure the agony of his wounds. And he will do whatever it takes to be with her.

When Susan first sees the old two-story house for sale, such warmth and longing fill her that—against all reason—she makes an offer. It will take years of hard work and money she frankly doesn’t have to fix up the place. So she can’t explain why she bought it. She also can’t explain what compels her to spend hours one night, digging in the basement until she unearths a man. A man who still lives and breathes despite having been buried alive. A man whose intense brown eyes glow amber with pain, declaring him far more than ordinary. Susan knows she should keep her distance. He has no memory and possesses gifts that would make most fear him. But as the two work together to unravel the mystery of his past, she finds herself drawn in by his teasing nature and tender touch. So much so that she loses her heart to him even as they find themselves hunted by unknown enemies who are ruthless in their quest to capture them.

  3. If this book was fun to write, it was fun (and much more) to read. What I loved is that the plotline was probably far removed from anything the readers could have imagined after reading the previous installments in the series. It was surprising, yet fulfilling and didn't spoil anything for the next very (very very very) waited for story. I think it's not that easy to surprise readers after so many books in a series without involving farfetched plots. This book managed just that. And Yes, Dianne, I can believe you'll be very nervous about Seth's release. As a reader, I'm both eager and not to discover what is in store for him :)
