A Drink, A Book and Holiday Cheer: Laurie London

Good morning lovely guests and welcome back to our holiday event hosted by myself and Shannon at Cocktails and Books! Today I have three fabulous paranormal authors dropping in to spread some of that holiday cheer, and to start I'd like to welcome Laurie London, author of the SweetBlood series...wait...that doesn't look like Laurie! What a surprise! We have a very special guest joining us, please give a warm welcome to Charlotte!

Hi Everyone! Charlotte here, from Enchanted By Blood, the short story Laurie London wrote in the anthology A VAMPIRE FOR CHRISTMAS.

When Crystal asked Laurie to share a favorite holiday drink recipe with you, I raised my hand and volunteered. As the owner of Charlotte Grant Designs, I specialize in decorating homes and businesses for the holidays, but I’ve also done some party planning as well.

In fact, that’s how I met former Guardian, Trace Westfalen. He begrudgingly (because I’m human and he’s a vampire) hired me to decorate the family home for a large holiday party they throw each year. To be voted into the Council he couldn’t be in relationship with a human woman…and, well, he kind of liked me. In Enchanted By Blood, I didn’t really make things easy for him. And neither did his grandmother.

In any event, here’s my recipe for Hot Buttered Rum. Don’t be fooled into thinking it’s too easy to be good. It’s seriously much butter than anything I’ve ever tried in the stores.

Charlotte’s Hot Buttered Rum:
1 pound of butter (4 sticks)
1 pound of brown sugar
Combine in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to boil. Remove from heat.
Stir in 1 quart of vanilla ice cream until it melts.
Pour into freezable containers and freeze. That’s it!
When you’re ready, put 1 or 2 heaping spoonfuls into a mug along with 1 generous shot of good rum. Add hot water and sprinkle top with a little nutmeg.
Enjoy!

If you package the mix into neat little white ice cream containers (you can buy them at packaging stores), it makes a wonderful hostess gift or a little special something for neighbors and friends. I like to include a pint of good rum, like Myer’s Dark Rum, so it’s all ready to go. And for the kids, they can have Hot Buttereds. (The mix without the rum added at the end.)

Let me (or Laurie) know if you try it.
Happy Holidays!

All they want for Christmas is you...It’s the time of year for twinkling lights on trees and kisses under the mistletoe. Yet the passing of another year means nothing to the stunning immortals who lurk in the shadows of the new-fallen snow. And they don’t care if you’ve been naughty or nice.Let four fanged lovers open your eyes to a passion you never dared to imagine. After all, there’s no place like home for the holidays–and these dazzling vampires can’t wait for an invitation.

  6. Charlotte, thank you for taking time from your busy schedule to share this recipe with us. Do you find vampires to be more demanding with decorating and party planning than others might be?

  9. Hi everyone and thanks for your comments! Charlotte told me to tell you all hello. She's a little busy at the moment. Trace can be kind of demanding sometimes.

If you end up trying this recipe down the road, find me on FB or Twitter and let me know. I'll be making it myself probably this week. I *think* one batch will make 4 or 5 pints of mix.
