#Interview with author Dianne Duvall of Phantom Embrace + #Giveaway !

Lexi: One of our favorite authors is here today! We can’t get enough of her writing or her Immortal Guardians. Welcome back to the blog, Dianne Duvall!

Dianne: Thank you, Lexi!  I’m very happy to be here again.  I always enjoy visiting. ☺

Lexi: We are so excited to have you back. For one because you are so much fun and second because it means you have a new release! Phantom Embrace is book 5.5 in your Immortal Guardians series and is novella length. Did you always intend to tell Yuri’s story or did he just fall into place unexpectedly?

Dianne: Yuri unexpectedly fell into place.  I’ve wanted to tell Cat’s story ever since she made appearances (in a manner of speaking) in Darkness Dawns and Night Reigns, the first two books in the Immortal Guardians series.  As I wrote the third and fourth books, I knew she was haunting the immortals.  But I didn’t find the perfect man for her until I wrote Night Unbound . . . and knew Yuri would be perfect for her.  Then I couldn’t wait to write their story.

Lexi: Reading this series is great because we get to see the previous characters you made us fall in love with. Roland and Sarah, Lisette and Zach, Melanie and Bastien; Bastien who happens to be the brother to our new heroine in Phantom Embrace and her name is Cat. Even though Cat is a phantom you gave her some strong feelings. What scene of Cat’s was the most difficult to write?

Dianne: That’s a little difficult to answer without spoilers, but . . . When Cat begins to worry about what her relationship with Yuri is doing to him, how it’s affecting him, she confronts him in an emotional and fairly volatile scene that is actually my favorite scene in the novella.

Lexi: So many characters to love and now you give us a ghost for Yuri! Yuri’s story continues from Night Unbound and really keeps the whole Immortal Guardian’s story moving. Which makes me wonder how you keep track of everyone and know when they will cross that fated path called love. Do you have a giant cork board by your computer?

Dianne: ☺  No, I don’t.  The characters are so real in my mind and have been with me for so long that I don’t have trouble keeping track of them. Although I do usually sketch out a quick seating arrangement when I write scenes in which the Immortal Guardians and their Seconds gather at David’s home to strategize or discuss their latest foe.

I’m also a pantser (flying by the seat of my pants) rather than a plotter.  So I often don’t know when each character will find love, or with whom he or she will find a HEA until shortly before I begin his or her book.  Cat, for instance, has not been a prominent player in the series.  But she has always lingered in the periphery of my mind while I waited for the right hero to come along for her.

Lexi: You are impressive, there is no other way to say it. For those of us who have read your work before are well aware of that fact. Those who haven’t have the chance to pick up a Dianne Duvall book and fall in love. Would you say this series is most rewarding read in order or could someone jump into the middle and start with Yuri’s story?

Dianne: I always try to write each story, whether it is a full-length novel or a novella, in such a way that new readers won’t be lost if they jump in and start with the latest book.  So if new readers would like to get a feel for my Immortal Guardians family and what they’ll find in the other books, they should do just fine starting with Phantom Embrace. If they enjoy it, I hope readers will go back, start at the beginning of the series, and read the other books in order, just so they can watch the characters change and grow as the series progresses.

Lexi: I am so ready for this new paranormal romance and am already looking forward to book six. I hope we will see you back again soon but for now we can cheers to Phantom Embrace!

Dianne: Thanks so much, Lexi!  I look forward to coming back, and hope readers will enjoy Yuri and Cat’s story.  ☺
