What I Love About Writing with Christi Barth of Bad for Her + #Giveaway

What I Love About Writing

I wrote my first book—a 66 page historical opus with pirates entitled Alyssa’s Last Look—the summer after my sophomore year in high school. It was hot outside (I lived in Los Angeles back then), so staying indoors with the typewriter (#datingmyself) seemed like a good idea. I’d read a bunch of Victoria Holt, Jean Plaidy and Kathleen Woodiwiss books at that point, and wanted to tell a story myself.

It is that simple. That’s why I became a writer. I enjoyed reading stories so much that I—naturally—wanted to take it to the next level. And that’s what I love about writing; creating the story. Coming up with each new branch off of the What If tree…

There used to be a segment on a morning show called ‘Everybody Has A Story’. They’d fly to a random town, pick a name out of the phone book and go chat with them to discover their story. Books do the same thing. Whether it is the tightness of a small town community or the over-the-top awesomeness of a billionaire book, writing gives me the chance to open a window to the story in my head.

Thing I love the most about actually writing? Banter. Snarky, witty, funny, sexy—any and every kind of banter. Thing I love the least? Doing the sex scenes and making sure that I don’t use the word ‘stroke’ significantly more than ‘caress’. That’s real work. Tear at your hair, bang your head on the desk, reach for alcohol kind of work that invariable lasts past midnight. (Because I have a rule that once I start a sex scene, there is no stopping—too easy to evade it otherwise.) Coming up with grand romantic gestures and hilarious dialogue—that’s the easiest thing in the world.

Thing I love most about being a writer? Knowing that for a few hours, I transported people from their worries and troubles and to-do lists and gave them an escape. I absolutely love that. It is a privilege and an honor and I hope my books keep putting a smile on your face!

Doctor Mollie Vickers loves the tight-knit community of her tiny Oregon town. But she’s not a fan of the limited dating options. Sleep with a guy who tried to copy off her in junior high? Pass. Mollie’s sex life is flatlining… until a deliciously handsome man she’s never seen before stops to help her fix a flat tire.

As an ex-mobster, Rafe Maguire’s no saint. But he’s trying to turn over a new leaf. Although he probably shouldn’t kiss the hot doctor on the side of the highway. Or suggest a no-strings fling with a woman he has no business pursuing. Rafe’s life is too complicated for love—his new WITSEC-provided identity doesn’t fit him at all and there’s a U.S. Marshal watching his every move. He can’t tell Mollie the truth… but their chemistry is scorching and being good doesn’t mean he can’t be a little bad.

Mollie can’t resist the guy who looks rough, talks tough, and is loyal to the bone. But it’s obvious Rafe is keeping secrets. When the truth comes out, Mollie must decide if she could ever love an ex-mobster… or if this bad boy has truly gone good.
