HE'LL DO ANYTHING FOR HER

Former Special Forces Lieutenant Jayson Harmon can't believe that his war scars don't matter to beautiful feline shifter Layla Halliwell. Why would she saddle herself with a broken man?

But Layla knows that Jayson is a hero to the core, and that only she can heal his wounded soul. So when Jayson is deployed on another deadly mission, no way is Layla staying behind...

Linda's Thoughts:
Layla smiled through her tears, "If I'd known that all it would take to get us talking is a romantic getaway to a bombed-out part of Eastern Europe, I would have gotten Kendra to set it up a long time ago."
"Romantic, huh?" He smiled. "I like romantic."

HER ROGUE ALPHA by Paige Tyler is the fifth installment in the author's fantastic X-Ops series in which one covert operative has claws and the other is highly-trained and carries a gun. The series packs plenty of heat into exciting military/paranormal shifter romantic suspense. The X-OPS Series revolves around the missions of the super-secret Department of Covert Operations, the DCO, which operates out of Washington, DC, and the Department of Homeland Security.

This installment includes lots of action on different fronts and favorites from former books in the series play heavily. That said, HER ROGUE ALPHA could be read as a stand-alone, if that is your preference. Paige fills in any necessary background information so a newbie is never lost. However, you should know that the reader's enjoyment will be exponentially increased if the series has been read in order.

I'm so glad that former Army Special Forces Jayson Harmon and feline shifter and psychologist Layla Halliwell finally got their story! AND it certainly does not disappoint! As the story begins, we catch up with Jayson, who took a considerable load of shrapnel in his back in Afghanistan and is having major issues adjusting to being out of the Army and in figuring out what he's going to do with his life since being medically separated from duty. He has sunk so low that he cannot fathom why Layla would ever love and want to be with a broken man like him. Their relationship is teetering as, even though Layla really cares about him, she is tired of fighting with him, and he seems determined to push her away.

When Layla is sent away on a DCO mission, Jason realized that he could never be the one sitting at home waiting for his mate to return. He makes a terribly stupid decision... and, you'll have to pick up the book to find out what happens next!

Jayson's inferiority complex was maddening, but Layla was one determined mate! I wholeheartedly applauded her patience as I wanted to shake him! Once Jayson stopped feeling sorry for himself, I loved their chemistry and how well they synced both romantically and in action. These two have been supporting characters in the background for so long, their story satisfied all my longings for them. I've had a soft spot for Jayson as he struggled with his combat injuries and Layla has been there for the teams through thick and thin. Her own sister was vehemently against Layla becoming a DCO agent, but Layla stuck to her guns, and proved she can kick some a**! Paired with Jayson, they are super heroes!

Following please find a few of my favorite quotes from this read:

She remembered why he'd caught her eye the first time she'd seen him, at Ivy and Landon's wedding. He was absolutely gorgeous. Tall, with broad shoulders and well-muscled arms, he had dark-blond hair, piercing blue eyes, and a square jaw covered with just the perfect amount of stubble. Then there was his mouth... There were books written about lips that kissable.
---

"Can you make the salad while I fix the garlic bread?"
He flashed her a grin. "Babe, I live to make salad."
---

"There was nothing you could ever do that would make me walk away. My only fear was that you would be the one to leave without ever giving me a say in the matter."

Paige writes the most captivating stories. This story had passion, plenty of swoon-worthy moments, humor galore, and dangerous action scenes that will have you holding your seat and your breath. It's a page-turner, for sure!

I can't wait for the next installment, HER TRUE MATCH, coming next March which will feature feline shifter Dreya Clark  and sexy detective Braden Hayes. Both of these characters were introduced in HER ROGUE ALPHA... and I just know that their story will be explosive! If you enjoy hot, fast-paced, paranormal romantic suspense, Paige's X-Ops series should be on your read-soon list!
