One bucking bronco…
Oklahoma ranch hand Tyler Jenkins is too young, too sexy, and too damn wild to be tied down by any single woman—for more than a few steamy hours…
One hard-working widow…
Widowed rancher Janie Smithwick is too busy paying off her debts to play rodeo with a reckless young cowboy like Tyler—no matter how hot he gets her…
One midnight ride they’ll never forget…
As a rule, Janie should be dating a man her own age, like her handsome neighbor Rohn—not the twenty-four-year old ranch hand he employs. But once Tyler gets Janie alone—held tight in his arms, pressed against his hard muscled body, burning with desire—the widow realizes that some rules, like broncos, are meant to be broken…
"I was going to go to bed early and maybe read for a little bit."
"Reading. Wow. Not sure I know many girls who do that."
Her brows rose. "Then you're hanging out with the wrong girls."
"No doubt. I most definitely have been... in the past, but I've raised my standards a bit recently."
MIDNIGHT RIDE by Cat Johnson is a wonderfully sultry, sexy cowboy romance and a highly entertaining start to the author's Midnight Cowboys series. Once I started it, I couldn't put it down until I'd finished it. The story grabbed my attention right away as it described Tyler's initial encounter with the love of his life. OMG, their first face-to-face meeting was freakin' hilarious! Tyler will never live it down. I laughed so hard, I cried. This is the story of Rohn's ranch hand and rodeo cowboy, Tyler Jenkins, and widowed ranch owner Janie Smithwick. Janie's property is located next to Rohn's ranch.
I really liked that Janie was twelve years older than Tyler so there is cougarish element to the story..Janie was in her mid-thirties and Tyler in his mid-twenties. The age difference mattered a lot to Janie, but not in the least to Tyler.
It was nice to read about Rohn and Justin before they met their mates in the second and third books. I actually didn't think I'd care for Tyler as, in later books, he had seemed a bit cocky to me. Now that I've read his book, I realize that's just his facade. Tyler is really a sweetheart. Actually, they all are!
Tyler was a magnificent male specimen. Janie recognized it immediately, as did her best friend and any hot-blooded woman in his vicinity. But, once Tyler set eyes on Janie, he had eyes only for her. He was smart, responsible, hard-working and sexy as could be. Janie had married an older man as a young woman. They were compatible and companionable, but their sex life had been nothing like the scorching, mind-blowing sex she experienced with Tyler. Janie's and Tyler's chemistry was truly off the chart. Janie was saddled with debt from her husband's illness, but determined to make it on her own. She was a smart woman who taught children how to ride. Despite Tyler's words to the contrary, she felt that she was just a small blip in Tyler's lifeline. She was positive that, when he met a girl his own age, he'd drop her like a hot potato, breaking her heart. Tyler had his work cut out for him convincing her otherwise.
Following please find a few of my quotes from this steamy read:
Need twisted deep and low inside her. It twined through her body like kudzu vines growing out of control, taking over and smothering what little good sense she had left.
"You let me kiss you, but you won't let me take you out on a date." He shook his head. "Maybe I'm going about this the wrong way. Maybe I need to convince you that you can't live without me."
She raised her brows. "How are you going to do that?"
"I'll show you." He pressed closer as his hands roamed down her body. "But it might take all night. That okay with you?"
"I've got nowhere else to be...."
"I couldn't get my mind off you all day." He spoke as he yanked her shirt over her head, right where she stood. Once that was gone, he moved his hands down to unfasten her jeans. He pushed them and her underwear to the floor in one motion. "I mowed that whole damn hayfield with a hard-on because of you."
I've read this series out-of-order. I can attest that these books can be fully enjoyed in any order. So dive in to the series as you wish when you wish.
I became acquainted with Cat Johnson's books when I attended a few of her panels at the Coastal Magic Convention this past February. She had recommended this series during one of her panels because her characters in this series aren't all spring chickens. To say I've fallen for Cat's smokin' hot cowboys since is to put it mildly. But... since I've now inhaled this series-to-date, I need to check out another of her series while waiting for the next book in this series. If you love your cowboys sweet, strong, responsible, hot and ready, I highly recommend Cat Johnson's Midnight Cowboys!
