Sultry with a Twist by Macy Beckett (Interview/Giveaway)

Lexi: If you are in the mood for a little bit of summer, help me welcome Macy Beckett, author of Sultry with a Twist!

Macy, your new adult series kicked off with Sultry with a Twist. The perfect small town, second chance, friends to lover’s kind of book. Sweet romance. Is this your favorite genre to read, or maybe it just came naturally for you to write about?

MB: Thanks for the warm welcome! As much as I love fall, I’m already missing summer, so I’m thrilled to be here today to talk about Texas in July. :-) I’m glad you enjoyed Sultry with a Twist. Yes, it’s absolutely my favorite genre to read, which is exactly why I wrote it. I tend to write the books I want to read.

Lexi: Sultry Springs seems like the ideal place to spend a summer, especially if there are guys like Luke and Trey there. Did you grow up in a small town?
MB: Haha! Don’t you wish there were more Lukes and Treys running around? Preferably shirtless? To answer your question, no, I didn’t grow up in a small town. My dad was in the Air Force, so I moved around every few years. But after I graduated from college in Texas, I settled in quite a few small towns. I’m drawn to them, even though I prefer life in the suburbs.

Lexi: Your heroine, June, got busted for something and has to do community service. I get the feeling Sultry Springs is one of those towns everyone knows what you are up to, making it difficult to let your hair down and break the law. Do you think it is easier to get into trouble in a small town?

MB: Oh, definitely. And when you get caught, everyone knows about it, which is even worse!

Lexi: Growing up did you ever do anything to blatantly break the law? I can think of a few things I did, some I got away with and some I got caught. Any crazy antics you were lucky enough to pull off and not get caught?

MB: Don’t tell my mom, but when I was eighteen, I went skinny dipping in Greece…in broad daylight! Technically, it wasn’t illegal there, but it’s still kind of scandalous. For me, anyway.

Lexi: Crazy antics or not, it will be fun to see what you have in store for the rest of your Sultry Springs books. Will Trey get his day in the sun? Any little teasers you have about him?

MB: Yes! I found just the right woman to bring Trey to his knees, and you can read about them in A Shot of Sultry (March 2013). Unfortunately for Luke, she’s Luke’s little sister, and the Bro Code says HANDS OFF. But don’t worry. Trey and Bobbi don’t keep their hands to themselves for long. There’s a sneak-peek of their first chapter on my Facebook page, so feel free to swing by and have a look!

Congrats on your debut in romance! Thanks for stopping by and giving us a glimpse into your small town, Macy!

When Mae-June July Augustine hightailed it out of Sultry Springs, Texas, with her heart in pieces, she swore she'd never return. But nine years later, one thing stands between June and her dream of opening an upscale martini bar: a month of community service under the supervision of the devilishly sexy Luke Gallagher, her first love and ex-best friend. As lust turns to love, June must decide where she belongs: in the glorious anonymity of Austin or back in Sultry Springs with the man who intoxicates her like no other.

  1. I grew up in a city with 6.5 million people, so I could never live in a small town--all those people knowing everything about each other would drive me mad!! But I do love vicariously enjoying small-town dynamics in romances :). Congrats on the new release-- adding it to my epic TBR queue!

  3. I also grew up in a large city, but I do love small towns. Everyone tries to be helpful and they are all busy bodies and matchmakers. I think it's great.
Congrats on the new release. It sounds fantastic. Can't wait to read it.

  9. Why do you feel drawn to small towns? I've lived in medium-sized places most of my life - I kind of like the idea of a place where everyone did know each other.

  10. I've lived in small towns my whole life (Wisconsin, Georgia, and Kentucky) and wouldn't live anywhere else...but I have to be close to a larger city! It is SO true that when you do something, EVERYONE knows about it in an hour or so! LOL!

  13. Jo, I wish I could explain it. I'm a suburb gal, so I have no clue why I'm drawn to small towns. Maybe the same reason I'm drawn to the ocean even through I have a paralyzing fear of swimming in it. lol.

  15. Congrats on the release of Sultry. I live in a small town outside of Dallas but it doesn't sound anything like Sultry Springs. Probably a good thing since I have a very hormonal teenage daughter!
