Book SIX of the award-winning Vampires in America.
THE BADLANDS of SOUTH DAKOTA … haunting landscapes, legendary outlaws, and … vampires?
LUCAS DONLON is a Vampire Lord, one of the most powerful vampires in North America and beyond. Charming and irreverent to his friends and lovers, he enjoys everything about his life as a vampire. But when a neighboring vampire lord declares war, he soon discovers that Lucas is as every bit as lethal as he is charming.
KATHRYN HUNTER doesn’t care about powerful vampires or their wars. Her baby brother is missing and she will do anything to find him, even if it means going against both her FBI bosses and the local vampire lord. But Lucas Donlon has other plans for the lovely FBI agent who’s landed on his doorstep.
Waging war against their enemies and each other, Lucas and Kathryn will risk everything to keep the most deadly vampire war in hundreds of years from engulfing every vampire, and human, in North America.

Crystal L's Thoughts:

Lucas Donlon is the Lord Vampire over a considerable territory that includes South Dakota. He's having some problems with a pain in the ass vampire who's the Lord over an area that includes Chicago. Frankly, he's tired of dealing with the problem and now he's on a war path to fix it. The problem? FBI SpecialAgent Kathryn Hunter, who is bugging him about her missing brother. The only thing that makes her meddlesome nature tolerable is the fact that she's delicious looking in every way that counts, and he wants to bite her in every place that counts. What he doesn't need? Her take charge attitude getting herself in trouble while he's currently at war with the pain in the ass from Chicago. What he doesn't see coming? Falling for the stubborn agent who thinks the only things in her life that are important are her brother Daniel and her job at the FBI in Quantico, Virginia.

Kathryn Hunter is on a mission to find her missing younger brother Daniel, who is a famous photographer. What she doesn't need is a smooth talking vampire who's determined to stop her at every turn from pursuing the trail to find her brother. Even if he is just trying to help and keep her alive. What she really doesn't need? A hot fling with that same vampire Lord, but she does it anyways. What she doesn't expect? To start having feelings for Lucas. Feelings that she can't pursue because her life is back at Quantico after she finds her brother, not in South Dakota.

Let me tell you readers, I did not expect to like this book as much as I did. It's a well written story that has a twist in the end that I didn't see coming. I love it when authors catch me off guard! (You go D.B. Reynolds! I like your devious little mind) What I also really liked about this book was the fact that Kathryn, the FBI Agent, actually sounded like an FBI Agent. The way she thinks, analyzes, and follows through on her investigation sounds like an actual agent, and not like a character that only half knows what they're talking about. (I'm a former law enforcement wife peeps, I'm allowed to be picky about things like this!)

Interesting story. Good for a weekend read on the paranormal side. I give it a four wine glass toast and I hope you enjoy it!
