Lexi: In the spirit of the upcoming holiday, Halloween, Balthazar the Sorcerer is stopping by to talk about shifters! Welcome....oh wait...oops. Welcome the creator of Balthazar the Sorcerer and writer of shifter romance, Terry Spear!
You make cuddly teddy bears, like Balthazar the Sorcerer, and have written about some sexy werewolf shifters. Now you have a new series in which Savage Hunger is the first book, and it stars Connor a jaguar shifter. Makes me wonder, what you will be dressing up as for Halloween?
TS: LOL, your opening is so cute!!! Balthazar is waving hi to everyone!! Now, your question. This gets really difficult. I used to love to be a Medieval fairy princess. Now I probably need to be queen. Or empress has a nice ring to it. I’ve been a gypsy and the Mad Hatter before. I am going to Authors after Dark next year and to their vampire and masked balls, so I’m working on something for those! So maybe I’ll don a black velvet cape, lengthen my canines, and go on the prowl. It would be a first time for me!
Lexi: Halloween or not it is always a good time to read about sexy shifters. I am a sucker for werewolves, since I have a soft spot for wolves/Siberian huskies. That sense of pack gives them a noble feel; you know they will have your back. What’s next for your werewolf books in 2013?
TS: Oh, Siberian huskies are beautiful!!! Highlanders and SEALs are next! What more could a girl want??? Well, and wolves. Heart of the Highland Wolf continues with A Howl for a Highlander (Feb 2013), sexy, Duncan MacNeill, youngest of the gray wolf brothers, not by much though—they’re quadruplets! He’s always ready for a fight—and bringing the man/wolf to justice that stole the clan’s money is just the ticket for him. Only a she-wolf provides him with a bit of a distraction in paradise.
In A Highland Werewolf Wedding (May 2013), Cearnach, 2nd oldest brother of the gray pack, is on his way to a wedding when an American she-wolf runs him off the road—his version. Her version—he was driving too fast. Well, one thing leads to another and before you know it, he’s fascinated with the woman who’s from a whole long line of pirates. Including some still living in Scotland. And she’s fascinated with the contemporary warrior man in a kilt who wants to protect her from her pirating kin.
In A SEAL Wolf Christmas (Oct 2013)—everyone gets in the picture. It’s Christmas, you know. But we have a problem. Isn’t that always the way? Bjornolf from A SEAL in Wolf’s Clothing, and Anna, a special ops woman who worked with Hunter’s team, are tasked with discovering who murdered two men at a Christmas tree farm. And, just one little other thing—he and Anna have been asked to take in a runaway teen while they’re at it. Anna doesn’t do Christmas. Or kids. Or teens. We get to see zoo man Thompson from earlier books, Leidolf, Seduced by the Wolf fame, Hunter’s pack, his SEAL team, and just a whole lot of fun!
Jaguar Fever is also coming out next year (Aug 2013)—Maya, her brother and Kathleen are back, along with Wade and his brother, and zoo man Thompson shows up. He’s used to dealing with wolves so jaguars are a little different. And these jaguars are a WHOLE lot different. Maya’s trouble, which is her middle name, and so the fun begins near Houston and travels to Belize this time in a race to stop men from hunting jaguars in their native environment.
Lexi: You really got in depth for your research for your Heart of the Wolf series. Did you feel the need to do that much again for your Jaguar series?
TS: Oh absolutely! I read everything I could about the difference between jaguars and other big cats—they’re considered a roaring cat, and the differences between them and households cats because more readers can probably identify with little cats. I also did a lot of research about the jaguar behavior—watched videos, read up on them some more, and about the Amazon and what all readers might encounter on a jungle trek. When I read a book, no matter the world, I love to learn something, and so I hope with my books that not only will readers love the characters, but they might even take away something that’s real to life that they didn’t know before.
Lexi: I do like how your covers are keeping the same theme. Hot men with their animal in the background. Stunning covers. Were you able to request that theme be kept even though it is a new series?
TS: No, I just give an idea of what they look like, the animal—if the wolf is a red, gray, Arctic; send pictures of the places I’m writing about and they take it from there. They do a beautiful job!
Lexi: Wolves or Jaguars, they are still a bunch of sexy men. Where oh where will you take us next? Thanks for stopping by Terry!
TS: Thanks so much for having me!! I’m currently writing Tom’s story next, Silence of the Wolf (from the Destiny of the Wolf pack, the youngest brother), Jaguar 3, and another Highland story. I’m excited about that and can’t wait to pitch for some new ones!
Lexi: I hope you get some downtime to work on your teddy bears! (Balthazar is definitely my favorite, so cute!)
