Question Of The Week: With all the hype about BDSM themed books lately  thanks to the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy, what is one BDSM that you think is better? Or if you haven't read 50Shades, what is a BDSM themed book that you would recommend over it?

My answer:
Although I lurve me some Fifty Shades trilogy and have read them twice, I don't really consider it a full-on BDSM book. Dark erotic romance, yes. BDSM, somewhat but not hard core. I think someone who is new to the genre and thinks that all books are written in that same (50 Shades) sense are in for a big surprise if they pick up something from say Sylvia Day, Lora Leigh, Jaci Burton, Maya Banks, ect.  If you're looking for a real BDSM read here is what I would recommend...and I know that I have posted this before but for reals, if you haven't read this book my fellow 18+ book-a-holics, you need to!

After being cheated on yet again, full-figured Alice O’Brien decides that she will leave behind her dreams of Prince Charming. From now on she will be a “love ‘em and leave’ em” kind of girl. However, when she—literally—tumbles down a rabbit hole, she discovers that she has left the familiar chaos of San Francisco behind and stepped into something vastly different. And it is here that she meets the fierce, powerful shapeshifter named Jarronn, who is one of the four irresistible brothers who rule this strange and fascinating land. Jarronn quickly seizes Alice for himself and threatens to introduce her to untold pleasure and to steal her furiously pounding heart. However, Alice soon learns that Jarronn deliberately lured her into his kingdom in order to make her his mate in hopes of averting a dark danger that threatens his people. But can their bond of passion save them?

  1. That one in my TBR list. lol I will bump it up!

I have to agree with you about 50 shades and BDSM. I am glad that it was not my first book that introduced BDSM b/c like you I don't think she did a great job of showing what that lifestyle is like. The "Red Room of Pain" cracks me up every time I read it.

I couldn't pick one books so I put 2 of my go-to authors in that genre. :o)

    Have a great weekend.

  5. I would definitely recommend Kallypso Masters' Rescue Me series based on 3 former Marines (3 DAMN SEXY DOMS) who open a BDSM club. It is not only hot but a real emotional rollercoaster ride with highs and lows (you will cry and your heart will ache). These characters FEEL SO REAL THAT YOU MISS THEM WHEN YOU FINISH THE BOOK. One VERY important thing is THE BOOKS HAVE TO BE READ IN ORDER THEY ARE NOT STAND ALONES. Start with Masters At Arms (which is free on Amazon) that introduces you to the characters, their background and how they meet, their horrors and the women who will be part of their life.

  6. I must say I love BDSM stories! One fave this past month was 10 Nights By Michelle Hughes. This was in my opinion a great example simply because it was not a psychological type book. The characters were living a lifestyle and NOT mental cases, children of abuse, rape or incest. While a lot of people loved The Siren, I did not because it was really too dark and the church aspect bothered me. Nothing to do with being Catholic and growing up in NY either. I just thought it was dark.

The other was Creed by Kristen Ashley. Again with this it was the lifestyle and not a lot of drama. The chief of the "club and girls" was not mental, damaged or all out psycho. I loved it sooo much.

  7. Selena; I had someone else recommend Cherise Sinclair to me, I just added her to my TBR list!

Ollie; I so agree! I have only read the first two books in Kallypso Masters' Rescue Me series but loved them and they capture the BDSM lifestyle perfectly! Also, Roni Loren's Loving on the Edge series is fantastic as well.

  8. I havent read the 50 shades books and I'm not really planning on it.

My pick was The Siren and The Angel! AMAZING!

I have the first in the Kallypso Masters series but haven't read it yet. I also liked the "Long Shots" series, but it was pretty light on the BDSM.

Oh I tried to check out the book you rec'd but its not available in ebook :( at least not on amazon.
