Today I would like to welcome author J.E. Hopkins who is joining us today on her blog tour for We Shall Rise!
Thanks so much for allowing me to guest post on your site. This is my first stop along my first blog tour!
Character growth and development is something I enjoy creating. The aspect that appeals the most is crafting the imperfect hero that is relatable, frustrating, but ultimately irresistible.
There is certainly something appealing about the flawless knight in shining armor who valiantly rescues the damsel in distress. How many of us have dreamt about the dynamic hero who epitomizes our dream of the perfect partner? There is something to be said for that, but for me and specifically my books, I much prefer the flawed hero.
In my Misfits of the Lore series, there are numerous imperfect characters who I try to make relatable to the reader. Even in the midst of a paranormal tale, I strive to create an element of reality. I think it’s important to see that perfection is unrealistic and unattainable. Everyone has issues that they are fighting to overcome, but it’s those flaws that make a character endearing. There’s a beauty in watching them overcome themselves and the barriers that hold them back from realizing happiness. Love is one of those gifts that can help breakdown those walls, but it is a journey wrought with struggle that hopefully in the end pays off with a happily ever after.
In my latest novel, We Shall Rise, the hero Kaden is fighting against an external race war between immortals, but the greater battle is the one his heart has waged against his mind—embracing love for the first time or continuing to run and punish himself for mistakes of the past. For Kaden, this is an ongoing battle within himself that could cost him everything he never knew he wanted.
My characters never attain perfection, but they grow and become stronger characters. Love doesn’t cure them, but it strengthens them. Love won’t find them until they open themselves to it. That’s a lesson I’m still learning.
I hope you enjoy We Shall Rise as much as I enjoyed writing it.
We Shall Rise
By J.E. Hopkins
War surrounds him, yet for vampire Kaden Gaspard, there is no greater battle than the one his mind has waged against his heart. He knows he should stay away from her. Reysa. The half-breed vampire warrior who had risked her life to prove his innocence for the seven murders for which he was accused, but had not committed. This stubbornly loyal woman who dedicated her life to her family of misfits - immortals shunned and abandoned by their clans for their impurity of blood and genetic mutations. This courageous and valiant African warrior who Kaden fears could never love the monster that he is destined to be.Amazon Kindle - Amazon Paperback - Barnes and Noble - Smashwords
As Kaden and Reysa struggle to accept the undeniable bond between them, they must come together to stop the emerging terror that threatens to destroy all immortals. The lesser immortals – witches, sages, shifters, demons, hybrids, charmers and foreseers – have declared war against the pureblood vampires and lycans who have used their purity of blood and greater strength to enslave the weaker races. No immortal is safe. This is a fight for freedom and a fight against genocide. There can be no true victor as death looms for them all.
