True Highland Spirit by Amanda Forester (Guest Post/Giveaway)

Today I would like to welcome back historical romance author, Amanda Forester, who is joining us with her latest Highland release, True Highland Spirit. Make sure to check out Lexi's review of this novel also!

What NOT to do in a Kilt
by Amanda Forester

Kilts.  You gotta love them.  Where else would you find such a bold fashion choice but the Scottish Highlands?  I must admit part of the lure of writing (and reading) Scottish historical romance is all about the kilt...or perhaps what's under it.  The potential for plot twists using the kilt, particularly when writing a romance is, well, bottomless (please forgive - couldn't resist)!

Yet there is a downside to wearing a kilt, particularly if the man is traditional about the wearing of the kilt and has naught but his birthday suit underneath.  Bending over, climbing ladders, updrafts - all of these present a particular problem.  As part of a public service campaign against unintended disclosures related to kilt wearing, I scoured the internet looking for good educational material.  Boy, did I get an eye full.

Unfortunately, none of these clips I deemed appropriate for this blog.  In truth, most of them were downright inappropriate.  So, here is a list of you tube videos you will NOT be seeing today:

·         Under the Kilt
·         Skiing Scotland in Kilts
·         Kilted Humor (elderly man in kilt asks people to hold a ladder while he climbs it)
·         Feels Breezy
·         Men in Kilts vs. Leaf Blower
·         Darth Vader in Kilt Riding Unicycle and Playing Bagpipes

The last one is admittedly G-rated, but I include it under the general topic "things that ought not to be attempted in a kilt".  My favorite video clip was kilt versus leaf blower - did you knew this was an actual contest?  After reviewing the footage, I can say with some authority that bending over, falling down, and certain athletic events should only be attempted at your own risk while wearing a kilt.  Also sitting presents a particular hazard - word to the wise.

I hope you all feel this blog had supplied you with important educational information about the unique challenges of kilt wearing.  Of course there are some unique advantages to kilt wearing too - but I'm trying to keep this blog family friendly!

Tell me what you love about a kilt!  One lucky commenter will win a copy of TRUE HIGHLAND SPIRIT!

TRUE HIGHLAND SPIRIT
Morrigan McNab learned to survive with a sword in her hand. Taking command, she is determined to protect her impoverished clan, no matter the cost. When an elusive French knight offers gold to fight against England, she joins the call to arms. Sparks fly on the battlefield as a forbidden passion smolders between Morrigan and Sir Dragonet. Yet Sir Dragonet holds a secret that will destroy the hope for a life together, and will make them rivals on a dangerous quest for a mysterious relic. As they fight beside each other against the English, and against each other to find the treasure, their love becomes a greater force than either can control.

  11. I have read two of Amanda's books and posted my reviews on LibraryThing and Goodreads. How could I not want another Historical Romance from an author that knows how to write about kilts so that I can mentally look up in the kilt while on my knees *giggles* and yes, I sit around imagining....ahhh.

  13. I've always been an admirer of men's legs so that makes a kilt quite fascinating to me. There's something about a man who is confident in what most of society view a "skirt" ;-).

I'm posting my email (use without spaces and symbols for words) as the rafflecopter form wouldn't appear on my screen... glittergirl54 at ymail dot com
