Outspoken and independent, Lady Alexa Bingham enjoys the heady freedom of making all her own decisions, even though the challenges of overseeing her family's country estate are daunting. But when a chance encounter with London's most notorious rake awakens a secret longing for adventure, she accepts her aunt's invitation for a Season in Town . . . only to find that breaking the rules of the ton has serious consequences.
The Earl of Killingworth uses his rakehell reputation to hide the fact that poverty has forced him to work for a living. As the owner of a gambling den and brothel, Connor has no time for glittering ballrooms or innocent young ladies. But after a reckless wager leaves him with a new business partner, he is forced to take a risky gamble . . . Will the cards fall in their favor? Alexa and Connor begin to play a dangerous game of intrigue and deception as they seek to outwit a cunning adversary who wants to put them permanently out of business. But if they are not careful, it is the flames of their own fiery attraction that may destroy them.

Khesley’s Thoughts:

The moment when Lady Alexa Hendrie marches into Connor Linsley's office sparks fly. This is where the story starts as Lady Alexa demands aid in finding her brother. The only thing is that the Earl of Kilingworth is demanding a kiss in order for his help. Lady Alexa doesn't think a kiss will do any damage so she agrees. That is when everything changes Alexa has never been kiss and she knows that has he owns a brothel.
When they see each other at a ball the same sparks are there. And once again he kisses her and she responds with kissing him back. Lady Alexa cousin Henry then mentions that they should disguise her as a man so she could gamble to win some money. All is going well until Connor walks in and Alexa prays he wont discover her. When Lord Haddan adds a note to the pile, when Alexa wins and looks at the note she is amazed, she just won half of The Wolf's Lair.
The next time she sees Connor he demands the note back at any cost but she refuses to give it to him. When she meets with him at The Wolf's Lair they talk about him paying her off when he has the money. As he is walking her out to her coach he is shot and tells her to run. Instead of running away she grabs a iron rod and hits the gunman in the head. She then grabs the earl and drags him to safety. When it is known that both of their life’s are now in danger they flee to his childhood home Linsley Close. As Alexa is pretending to be Lady Killingworth she starts to have feelings for the earl.

I loved this book. It took me a little while to get into it but once I did I didn't want to put it down. The whole time you are wondering who shot Connor and you also wonder if he will fall in love with her. This is my first historical romance and I will be reading more because of this book. I really like how Alexa doesn't take crap from anyone just because she is a woman.
