So… a few years ago, I had an idea for a novel based on the lead singer of a band. I probably should have known “rock star romance” was a sub-genre that had been around forever and was extremely popular—but I had no idea! Clearly I’d been living under a rock.
My agent had recently submitted the first book of a billionaire series to publishers and so I was just waiting around. She told me to write anything I wanted— except the second book of that series (Billionaire Bosses).
I mentioned to a writer friend that I had a fresh new idea—a rock star hero. Somehow she managed not to laugh at me, and told me to read AL Jackson’s Bleeding Stars series. (At the time, I think only the first two books were out.) And… I fell in love. With rock star romance as a genre, and also the lyrical nature of AL’s writing. I went on to read Heidi McLoughlin’s Forever My Girl, and between these two authors, I was truly inspired.
From there, Shane Hawthorne was born. I wrote what would become Rock King in a few months, and when I turned it in, my agent was worried that rock stars may have already “peaked”.
I’m so glad that wasn’t the case, and that early readers seem to have connected with Shane and Delaney’s story. I truly hope you enjoy Rock King!! For me, this was a book of my heart. I wrote it without any expectations, just discovering these two broken individuals. I think Rock King is almost less a rock star romance than a book where the broken bits of someone’s soul exist to light up the one they love.
