#Interview with Jeffe Kennedy of #NewRelease, Oria’s Gambit!

Lexi: What’s the best part of helping Reading Between the Wines book club? Days like today when one of my all time favorite authors stops by and I get to ask the questions! Welcome back to the blog Jeffe Kennedy!

Jeffe: Thank you! I’m always pleased to be here. Nice to stop by a friend’s place.

Lexi: I’ve chilled a nice white bubbly wine in your honor; great for hot summer days.

Jeffe: Woo hoo!!! This is especially welcome as today is my birthday. I hope it’s expensive bubbly! ;-)

Lexi: Of course, only the best! And a very Happy Birthday to you! Also, lucky for us book addicts you are giving us some stellar reads to go along with our vacations! PAGES OF THE MIND, The Twelve Kingdoms book 4, came out May 31st and LONEN’S WAR, book one in your new series Sorcerous Moons, releases July 19th! So does that mean you write on your time off?

Jeffe: And also book two in the series, ORIA’S GAMBIT, which just released this weekend! Time off? People get to take time off?? I need to speak to my boss about this! She’s a real slave-driver, though...

Lexi: Haha! You are one dedicated woman but you balance writing, promoting, traveling so well with regular life stuff too. Maybe part of being so level headed is what makes you great at characterization. You obviously write strong MCs but your secondary characters is what keeps us coming back for subsequent books. Like PAGES OF THE MIND; you introduced us to Dafne early in the series and we finally get to read her story in book 4! How excited were you to bring this librarian’s life to the page?

Jeffe: I was super excited! And thank you for those lovely words. I love all of my characters and none feel secondary to others. Dafne was fun to write because she is so bookish, like me, so I could give full rein to her passion for recording her journeys, drawing maps, examining maps to see where she was, and looking up everything that piqued her curiosity. And there are no words she won’t use, so she felt like a natural character to write, too.

Lexi: And now you’re starting a brand new series with Sorcerous Moons! Jeffe, you are so so good at writing erotic romance but your fantasy romance is on a whole different level which is why I am practically jumping up and down that you have written another FR with LONEN’S WAR! When did you get the idea for this book and is it related to The Twelve Kingdoms world at all?

Jeffe: It is not at all related—in fact, I went to pains to make it a totally new world, with two moons even! I’d had the idea for a long time, really since I finished THE MARK OF THE TALA. Sometimes I finish a book and feel like I still didn’t get to explore everything I wanted to. I’d told my agent I had an idea for a fantasy romance where a king and queen of enemy realms are forced into a marriage of convenience. I wanted a slow-burn romance that took a lot of time to move from enemies to lovers. At the time he thought it sounded too much like MARK. I ended up with a little time between commitments, so I decided to write this story. As always seems to happen with me, the story blew up and it looks like I’ll go past three books with it. THE TIDES OF BÁRA, book three, will come out in late September or early October. We’ll see what happens once that’s done... but I think there will be *at least* one more. Maybe five??

Lexi: One similarity I noticed is that both THE PAGES OF THE MIND and LONEN’S WAR are filled with characters who have interesting names. Time to come out and tell us…are you such a fantasy geek that you have an arsenal of unusual names hidden away on a spreadsheet or do you have a stash of old baby name books under the bed?

Jeffe: I am a total fantasy geek! I have all sorts of interesting links stowed away to various etymological dictionaries and naming sites. Picking names is always a kick!

Lexi: When you’re passionate about a project, like you were when you first started working on The Twelve Kingdoms, I know its going to be good. And readers, Jeffe is really amped up about this new series. Yay for more books! Congrats on the releases of PAGES OF THE MIND and LONEN’S WAR! It was great having you back, Jeffe! We hope to see you again soon and that you have a fabulous birthday!

Jeffe: Thank you so much—great way to celebrate my birthday, with my wine- and book-loving friends!

A Fragile Bond
To rule is to suffer, but Lonen never thought his marriage would become a torment. Still, he’s a resourceful man. He can play the brute conqueror for Oria’s faceless officials and bide his time with his wife. And as he coaxes secrets from Oria, he may yet change their fate…
