Eight years ago, vampire Justus de Wynter fell in love with bluestocking, Bethany Mead, and suffered the consequences. He was sentenced to exile as a rogue vampire, and she was imprisoned in a mental institution.

After years of searching, and dodging patrolling vampires, Justus has finally found his love. But even after he breaks Bethany out of the asylum, the challenges that face them have only begun. For Justus is still a rogue, with no territory to grant them safety, and Bethany is a fugitive.

As they flee across the English countryside in search of refuge, Bethany and Justus must overcome the challenges of their past and find out if love is possible on the run.

Linda's Thoughts:
Bethany Mead cringed against the stone wall of her cell. Greeves was guarding the female ward this night. She hated Greeves…

Wynter’s Bite by Brooklyn Ann returns readers to the author’s captivating world of vampiric historic romance. I couldn’t be more thrilled as this entire series is seriously addictive! Now, before I go any further, I have to mention the fabulous cover which has a gothic feel to it and which is also an accurate depiction of the characters within.

You should also know that while Wynter’s Bite is the fifth installment in this series, it can be easily enjoyed as a stand-alone read, if that is your preference. There are characters from the previous books that play supporting roles in the story and fans of the series will relish catching up with them – but newbies should have no worries about ever being lost with the story.

Wynter’s Bite is the story of vampire Justus de Wynter, second in command to the Lord Vampire of Rochester, and mortal Bethany Mead, daughter of the Baron of Wickshire and a debutante in Rochester, England in 1812. In the author’s world of vampires, there are strict rules meant to prevent humans from finding out about the vampire world. Crossing those rules carries a penalty of death.

As the story opens, Bethany is being held against her will in the Morningside Asylum for Lunatics in Manchester, England in 1825. She is in dire straits desperately needing to be rescued. The whys and wherefores of how she ended up in the asylum is actually rooted in events that occurred eight years previous as the couple’s tragic love story unfolds....

Justus and Bethany are both well-written, realistic characters. They are easy to like and sympathize with. Justus is two hundred years older than Bethany with a reputation as a rake and blackguard. However, in reality, he is caring and loving. He has distinctive silken crimson red hair, russet brows, pearl-white skin and glittering brilliant green eyes and he fills the shoes of the hero quite nicely. In physical contrast, Bethany is adorable with golden curls and large blue eyes. I love how open she is with Justus. She tries to be proper as she was taught, but she just can’t help herself at times. I greatly appreciate how their shared love of books actually brought them together. Their common dream was to have a secure home together with a large library that they could immerse themselves in.

Following please find a few of my favorite quotes from Wynter’s Bite:

“I have always wondered what it is like to be kissed.” She snapped her mouth closed at such an outrageous confession, but it was too late.
“And?” he whispered back.
She frowned. “And what?”
His lips arched in a wicked smile. “How was the experience?”
“Incredible,” she couldn’t stop herself from answering. “So much more that what the novels depict.”
His grin broadened, tempting beyond reason. “That tempts me to do it again.”
---

“Justus?” she whispered. “I know it is not ladylike for me to ask, but I very much would for you to kiss me again.”
Those sensuous lips of his curved in a smile that made her belly flutter. “See, you are my counterpart, for I was just going to do just that.”
---

“God, you feel so good on top of me,” he whispered, rucking up her skirts to feel more of her silken skin.
“No, you feel good.” Her hips arched against his erection and she licked her lips. “Is it possible for us to…” she trailed off with a blush.
“Oh yes,” he whispered…

Wynter’s Bite is excellently written and perfectly paced. Join this couple as they embark on an often dire and lamentable, dangerous and passion-filled adventure. The possibility of a happy-ever-after ending certainly seemed to be a remote outcome. Will this couple get the library of their dreams? I highly recommend Wynter’s Bite to anyone who enjoys intriguing and steamy paranormal historical romance.
