Big city K-9 cop Ronan McGuire loves women, loves his dog, loves his job - but when old flame Maddy Morgan moves into his jurisdiction, he can’t think about anyone else.
Ronan knows she’s way out of his league, but he’s determined to help Maddy live life to the fullest.

Maddy has immersed herself in work and swiftly made a name for herself in the hot New York City real estate market. She’s looking for safety, not love, but Ronan McGuire is as persistent as he is sexy, and his crooked smile is hard to resist. But all other concerns are wiped away when Maddy goes missing and Ronan and his bloodhound K-9 partner are tasked with finding her and bringing her home.

Linda's Thoughts:
“Once we (McGuires) set our sights on something we want," Ronan rasped, "we don't quit until we get it." She wasn't sure if he bent to her or she reached for him, but the end result was explosive. Ronan's mouth covered hers, and with a strangled groan, she opened to him immediately. His tongue sought entrance and lashed along hers with swift, furious strokes. Maddy's arms tightened around his neck as she met his greedy kiss with one of her own. Devoured - that's how she felt - and she couldn't get enough.”

TROUBLE WALKS IN by Sara Humphreys is the captivating second-chance-at-love story of one of New York City's finest, K-9 officer Ronan McGuire, and real estate professional Maddy Morgan. In 2015, when I reviewed the first book in this series, BRAVE THE HEAT, I had written:."I look forward to reading the stories of the other McGuire brothers. I personally hope that K-9 cop Ronan's is next and I hope his special someone is Jordan's friend, Maddy, who deserves a happy ever after of her own. A bonus is that readers would be treated to Bowser's story along the way. Bowser is Ronan's hairy bloodhound canine partner." WooHoo! My wishes were granted in full AND the result is fantastic!

This story is set in both New York City and in the small town of Old Brookfield, an idyllic New England hamlet. There's an overriding element of suspense and danger in New York City as a deranged killer is targeting female real estate professionals. Ronan worries that Maddy could be next.

Maddy is still reeling after having tragically lost her firefighting boyfriend of ten years. Unable to cope with living in Brookfield where everything reminded her of her loss, Maddy has pulled up roots and moved to New York City where she has established herself as a successful high-end real estate professional - not an easy task. She has no life away from work and lives in a plain-vanilla world. Enter "Make-Out McGuire" Ronan. Ronan and Maddy go way back...

As the story opens, Ronan and Bowser are on a time-critical search and rescue to find a little boy who has wandered off from his family. He and Bowser have great camaraderie and are a team both at work and away from work. Ronan has alwasy been a heart-throb with his pick of girls, but Maddy is the one he has wanted since high school. Unfortunately, she has never wanted to have anything to do with him. He knows that pushing Maddy too much could lose her forever. For the first time in his life, Ronan wants to be more than a friend with benefits. He wants it all with Maddy.

Following please find a few of my favorite quotes from this read:

“Ronan's tall, broad-shouldered form cut a striking figure, and with Bowser at his side, the two of them had an almost superhero-like air about them. They were resolute and unwavering in the face of frightening and hopeless situations.
Man and beast, strong and steady.”
---

“Tell me what you want, Mads."
"You," she said in a shaky whisper. "I want you, Ronan.”
---

“I want you to let go. Just close your eyes and feel me. Don't think.
“I'm terrified that if I let myself go there again, if I explore these out-of-control emotions, that there will be no turning back. It's like looking into a giant abyss. There's no end in sight. There's no bottom to the well, and if I allow myself to fall in..."
"He'll catch you," Jordan whispered. "But you have to trust him, and you have to trust in yourself. That's love, my friend - leaping into the mighty unknown because your heart overtakes your mind. That's what life is all about, but we can't and don't do it alone. Give Ronan a chance, Maddy.”

TROUBLE WALKS IN is the second installment in Sara's The McGuire Brothers series, but it can be fully enjoyed as a stand-alone if that is your preference. There are interconnected characters and, if you haven't read the first book, you will miss the joy of catching up with Jordan and Gavin. IF you have the time, I would recommend that the series be read in order just so you don't miss out on any of the sexy fun and games!

I can't wait to see which McGuire brother will get their story told next!  Tristan McGuire seems to be baiting to be next with his "what I don't get is the idea of settling down with one person forever" talk. Sounds like he needs a bit of a comeuppance, don't you think? One thing for sure, Sara Humphreys can sure turn the tables on these guys! With perilous scenes that will have you holding your breath and gripping your chair and a hot romance that will leave you swooning, this series has the best of both worlds! I highly recommend TROUBLE WALKS IN to anyone who enjoys steamy and lively romantic suspense!
