EXCERPT:

The Queen, like most of her kind, was small in stature and slight in build; willowy and graceful like the tree she called home.  Also like most Fae, she was a stunningly beautiful and regal woman.  She had a thick braid of raven hair leading from below the glow of a simple silver crown nestled securely at the top of her head to cascade over her shoulder, past small but firm breasts, and down to her hip.  A Scepter of Ash topped with silver and Amethyst lay in her lap, she perched on her throne in an iridescent gown, a delicate and finely crafted medallion bearing the large willow tree outside nestled between her milky breasts hidden from view by a sweetheart bodice.  Although Ares found her beauty breathtaking, she stared down at him with the strangest eyes Ares had ever seen outside his Mother's.  They were overly large and almond shaped, as was normal for a Fae, but they were nearly translucent, the irises the palest shade of gray imaginable, hardly discernible from the whites.  Her pupils were as amber as the setting sun.
"You are an Olympian?"  Shar glowered down at him from her throne.  Her words more of a statement than a question as she spoke in a tight voice resonating with authority.
Feeling the weight of his precarious situation Ares felt it best not to lie, not yet anyway.  "Yes.  I am Ares God of War, Son of Zeus and Hera.  Holding me prisoner would be a grave mistake…Celt."
The throng of angry women who'd lost so many Sisters that day began voicing their single-minded opinion with great vigor as they shouted in Gaelic.
"Kill him!  Kill him!"
"He admits it!"
"Slay the Olympian Pig!"
"Put his head on a pike and send it back to his wretched Father!"
Shar Draíocht stood up, raised her Ash staff in the air and spread her arms wide.  "Silence!" she demanded of her subjects and begrudgingly they all obliged, but not for long.  "You dare to threaten us, Ares God of War?  You should be grateful we haven't slit your throat and left your body to rot in the sun."
Behind him a rousing cheer went up and the women stomped their staffs on the floor in approval.  Seeing the precariousness of his situation Ares capitulated.  "I meant no disrespect, little Queen of Whores."
The guards flanking him knocked his knees out from under him with their heavy staffs.  Ares hit the ground with a grunt as one of them forced her knee into the small of his back, grabbed a handful of his hair, and yanked his back so he had no choice but to gaze upon their Queen.
A sly grin broke out Shar's ruby red lips as she gazed down at him in disgust.  "I see your reputation is well earned."
"I aim to please," Ares grunted.
Slowly Queen Shar sauntered down the steps from her throne to where Ares was kept on his knees.  She walked right up to him with a chilly grin on her full lips.  His charm lost on her, Shar Draíocht wailed him across the jaw with her scepter, bringing it up so forcefully his head nearly ricocheted off his shoulders. Ichor ran down his bottom lip even as the flesh of his chiseled jaw line split open.  "You don't please me mighty God of War."
