Tour: Turning Point by Tiffany A. Snow (Guest Post/Giveaway)

Please give a warm welcome to romantic suspense author, Tiffany A. Snow!

Thank you to Reading Between the Wines for hosting me on the blog tour for TURNING POINT, the third book in The Kathleen Turner Series.  There will be a total of five books in the series.  Book four, OUT OF TURN, will be released on 12/17/13.

Exclusive Scene – TURN TO ME

In TURN TO ME, Kathleen narrowly escapes being burned to death when her car gets blown up.  Still in shock from not only that, but from seeing Blane in a clinch with an ex-girlfriend, Kathleen is taken to Kade’s apartment where she spends the night.  However, there’s an unaccounted for period of time between when they’re talking on the couch and when she wakes up the next morning.  Here’s what happened during that time.

~~~~~~~~~~
After enduring A Charlie Brown Christmas, Kathleen had found yet another sappy Christmas movie to watch.  This time it was It’s a Wonderful Life.  Kade would take issue with that rather positive outlook, if he cared enough, which he didn’t.
She seemed content though, absorbed in the black and white scenes playing out on the screen.  After dropping way too much of his emotional baggage on her, she’d made no move to leave his arms or the couch, just turning back to the television and snuggling spoon style.
Kade paid half his attention to the movie, listening to the dialogue, but his gaze was on Kathleen.  His arm still rested in the curve of her waist, his hand against her abdomen, but she didn’t seem to mind.  Her cheeks were flushed rosy from the vodka she’s consumed, making her skin appear like strawberries in cream.  Her hair lay in long waves against his chest, the strands tickling slightly at his neck.
Kade loved her hair.  The color was so rare, like the horizon at dusk just as the last ray of sunshine was set to disappear.  He wanted to touch the wavy lengths, but he was afraid that if he moved, she’d move, too.  Maybe she’d sit up and go to the other end of the couch away from him.  He didn’t want that.  So he just watched her.
“This part gets me every time,” she said quietly, and Kade looked up at the screen.
It was some scene with a kid talking to an old man, pleading with him.  Mr. Gower?  As Kade watched, the old man hit the kid on the side of the head.
“You like this?” Kade asked in disbelief.
“Well, no, I don’t like him hitting the kid,” Kathleen said.  “I hate that.  But the kid is George Bailey, and he’s trying to save the old man.  The guy just lost his son in the war, so he’s upset and hurting.  George is taking the abuse because he refuses to let the old man push him away, not when he knows he can help him.”
Kade watched for a moment, then glanced back down at Kathleen.  “So you identify with poor George being roughed up because he wanted to save the old man?”
“I didn’t say I identified with him…”
“But you do.”
She sighed, her chest rising and falling underneath his hand.  “Yeah, I guess I do.  Because it was worth it, in the end.  The old man would’ve killed someone and gone to prison.  And after all,” she turned to look at him, “isn’t that what you did?  For Branna?”
Kade didn’t answer, the clear blue of her eyes seeing more of his soul than he should allow.
Her lips lifted slightly at the corners.  “So I guess we’re a bit alike, you and me,” she said.  Her soft smile was innocent.  Trusting.
“God help you,” he joked, his voice rougher than he had intended.
Kathleen gave him a look and turned back to the television.
Kade tuned out the TV as he studied Kathleen, memorizing every minute expression that crossed her face as she watched the movie.  Sadness.  Concern.  Amusement.  Joy.  They didn’t talk, and that was fine.  Just being here, with her, was more than he’d ever had expected…or thought that he’d want.
Blane was a fool, he decided.
Kade couldn’t remember the last time he’d allowed a woman into his apartment.  His apartment was his sanctuary, the place he felt the closest to “safe” that he’d probably ever feel.  No one was allowed here.  Even Blane had only come once or twice, Kade preferring to go to his house instead.
It was nice, having someone here.  Well, maybe not just anyone.  It was nice, having Kathleen here.  The thought made Kade uneasy.  Yeah, she was beautiful and sexy as hell, but she didn’t mean anything to him.
Though the thought of her nearly being killed tonight caused an uncomfortable level of anxiety.
She sighed, nestling more closely against him, and Kade realized she’d fallen asleep.  The vodka had probably helped with that, not to mention the emotional and physical shocks of tonight.  His lips twisted slightly as the image of her tossing back a shot ran through his mind.  He liked a woman who could hold her liquor.
Carefully easing the remote out of her hand, he turned the volume down on the television.
Kade wasn’t usually the type of man to take the high road, if given a choice, and tonight was no exception.  Kathleen’s squirming had twisted the shirt she wore so that now it gaped at the neck, offering him an unobstructed view that he spent several minutes enjoying.  His fingers itched to touch, but he wasn’t so far gone that he’d accost an unconscious woman, no matter how tempting.
He’d changed her clothes earlier, but his attention had been on making sure she was unhurt.  Now that he had the opportunity, he could appreciate the feel of her pressed against him, her bare legs tangled with his denim-clad ones.  The curve of her hip would fit perfectly in his hand…
Kade’s fist clenched.  No touching.  If he touched her, he might wake her, and if she was in the mood she’d been in earlier when he’d kissed her…he wouldn’t stop this time.
And what would Blane have to say about that?
The thought brought a swift end to the moment of contentment and Kade decided it was best to get her to bed before his errant fantasies led somewhere he couldn’t go.
Kathleen didn’t wake as Kade shifted her, lifting her in his arms and carrying her into the bedroom.  The sight of her in his bed was one he committed to memory before quietly closing the door and heading back to the couch.
After her promotion from law firm Runner to Investigator, Kathleen Turner is learning the ropes of her new job from none other than assassin-for-hire Kade Dennon, a situation her boyfriend Blane Kirk is none too happy about. But the lessons with Kathleen take a back seat when Kade becomes a target. Previously untouchable, his enemies now know of the chink in his armor – his brother’s girlfriend.
And Kade’s not the only thing coming between Kathleen and Blane. From Blane’s inexplicable defense of a man guilty of a horrible crime, to a mysterious stranger from Kathleen’s past, to Kathleen’ risky investigation into human traffickers, the obstacles mount against a relationship that’s just begun to find trust again.
While Blane considers a job offer that would take him back to the front lines in the war on terror, Kathleen is determined to pursue her new career, with or without his approval. Unfortunately, her current case is far more dangerous than anyone knows. Someone close to Blane will go to extreme lengths to split them up, lengths that may prove worse than death for Kathleen.
Kathleen, Blane and Kade must atone for the sins of the past and the present. The fallout will force Kathleen to a turning point…in her career, and her life.
