Way too young, eleven year old Tucker Creed and his six year old neighbor, Sylvie Bissenette, find they have something awful in common. Creed then decides he’s going to do everything in his limited power to shield his Sylvie from her ordeal. So he does and Creed and Sylvie form a bond that grows and blossoms with their ages.
They plot to leave their lives behind, the town they live in that will hold them down and the histories they share that, unless they break free, will bury them. Sylvie goes to their special place, Creed never shows and she doesn’t see him again until it’s too late.
With Creed gone, Sylvie is forced to endure a nightmare and do the unspeakable to end it. To deal, she develops a hard shell with sharp edges that very few can break through. So when Creed again finds his Sylvie, he discovers the girl he loved is locked away and he has to find his way back into her heart without getting shredded in the process.

Crystal L's Thoughts:

The childhood sweetheart story is one of my favorites. This childhood sweetheart story does not disappoint because it has tons of heartbreak, angst, twists, and re-connection. In the 2nd book in KA's Unfinished Heroes Series (the first book was Knight, and you can read Viviana's guest review HERE), showcases a petite little firecracker named Sylvie who makes you think the word jaded is her middle name. She has good reason to be this way though. First she handed her heart over to Tucker Creed, but he bailed on her the night they were supposed to run away together. Then her father sent her into an arranged marriage to pay off his debts that was hell on earth. After that she had to resort to being a call girl to support herself. These days she works for Knight, helping to keep track of his call girls and keep them safe.

Life is as good as it's going to get for Sylvie. That is until Creed walks back into her life and blows her peace of mind to smithereens. Creed tries to talk to Sylvie about why he left but she doesn't want to hear it. While Creed is trying to wear down Sylvie's defenses, he works a case for Knight to get to the bottom of the sudden problems Knight is having with his girls, and their safety. Sylvie is forced to work with Creed, but she's determined to get to the bottom of things as soon as possible so Creed can walk back out of her life just as suddenly as he walked into it. Too bad Creed has no intentions of giving Sylvie what she wants.

Creed has secrets that are going to blow Sylvie's world to teeny tiny pieces. The question is, after the secrets, and the case they're working blow over, will they work through their problems so that they can be together at the end of it all. This book is a bit heartbreaking, so fair warning. All in all, another great addition to KA's bookshelf. The best news? Book #3 in the Unfinished Heroes Series - Raid - comes out on February 28th! Get ready peeps! I've read the first few chapters up on KA's website and I bet this is going to be another emotional ringer! Yippee! 4 Wine glass toast and looking forward to good things to come from Kristen Ashley. I'm ready for my next KA book crack fix!
