Today I have a fabulous new author, and a super cool lady in general, joining us for a fun guest post. Please welcome Lisa Kessler! You can check out my review of Lisa's new release, Night Walker, *here*
Thanks so much to Crystal for letting me hijack… *ahem*… I mean have a guest spot on her blog today!
I thought I’d share some behind-the-scenes author stuff with all of you! Ready? J
My debut novel, Night Walker, was just released last month, and I’ve spent the past 6 weeks in a promotional blur of guest blogs, interviews, blog talk radio spots and even a trip to RomCon to meet readers. Reviews have been coming in, and most of them have been positive! *knock on wood* YAY!
The next thing everyone asks me is, “How are sales going?”
Sadly, I have no idea of any sales figures yet, but I hope the word is getting out about Night Walker. I can share that a publisher in Turkey has just bought the foreign translation rights, so in 2012, Calisto will be in Turkish!!! WOOT!!!
World Domination is still a ways off, but baby steps, right? LOL
Out of all the book promo craziness, I can honestly say that my most favorite part of becoming a published author has been connecting with readers! After so many years of struggling to find a publisher that would believe in Night Walker and my dark hero, Calisto, it’s been a dream come true to finally be able to talk to people about the book and share it!
If you haven’t read Night Walker yet, it combines contemporary paranormal romance with a historical angle that made it a really tough sell for me with publishers. While many of them read the whole novel, I kept hearing “But we don’t know how we would market it.”
It was tough to keep moving forward in the face of so much rejection, but I’m a reader myself. I read a LOT of paranormal romance, urban fantasy and horror, and I really believed readers would enjoy a new take on vampires and the blend of historical background, even if some publishers didn’t.
So hearing from readers that they “love” Calisto, or that the book touched them on an emotional level, makes every single rejection worth it! LOL And check out all these happy readers!!! J
I squealed with every picture people sent me! LOL And I’ve got 5 more to add now…
Why am I sharing all this?
Because you may not know it, but when you finish a book and take the time to post a review or email the author to let them know you enjoyed the book, no matter what’s happening or how busy we might be, you TOTALLY made someone’s day!!!
So if you’re reading a great book right now, I encourage you to reach out and let the author know! J
Thanks so much for stopping by and thanks again to Crystal for letting me say Hello!!! I really appreciate all the support and enthusiasm for Night Walker!!!
And if you leave your email address in a comment, I’d be happy to show my appreciation with a signed set of Night Walker romance trading cards!!! (They’ve got the AB-tacular cover on them too!)
Also, if you’re reading a book/series right now that you really love, give them a shout out in the comments… I love adding new books to my to-read list on Goodreads… J
