My fate is bonded to two princes– one born of blood, the other of power— but my trust lies in neither.

My skin is cursed by the stars, my fate damned by desire.

But when the dark prince offers me a bargain that will save his people and my life, the cruel and intoxicating male gives me no choice.

Our union is his revenge, and I am his sacrifice.

His lies are unforgivable. His wicked touch still bathes me in sin.

He is my mate, and he is tortured by a curse to protect his people from his own family.

I could now see him for exactly who he was. So why can’t I get his alluring touch out of my head?

I am the key to saving his kingdom, but he alone has the power to ruin me.

Crystal's Thoughts:

"Now, spread your legs like a good girl and let me have what's mine."

A Kingdom of Blood and Betrayal  picks up right where A Kingdom of Stars and Shadows ended. Adara may no longer be a captive of the Fae Kingdom, but she is now one of the Blood Kingdom. The boogeymen of her world, the storybook villain's used to scare children in order to keep them in line. Adara finds herself mated to her enemy, and though she can't trust Evren, she can't help but be drawn to him...  Will he be her death, or will he be her salvation?

This second book was a good continuation of the first, it delved deeply into the burgeoning relationship between Adara and Evren with plenty of spice to balance out the action and intrigue. Prophecies are unraveled, pasts are explored, and new characters introduced. A tentative trust emerges. There was little progression in the overall storyline however, with A Kingdom of Blood and Betrayal being more of a padded bridge between the first and last book in this trilogy.

I'm really enjoying the world and characters Holly Renee has weaved together in Stars and Shadows. Though I did have déjà vu with a few bits of dialogue, they strongly resemble another popular fantasy romance series that I love. And again, the plot-twists are quite predictable. Once more this book ended with a cliffhanger that has me desperate for the last book, A Kingdom of Venom and Vows. All together; a fun and quick fantasy romance read.
