On the worst birthday of my life, I come home to find my boyfriend in bed with another woman. Within hours, I’m drunk, homeless, and pledging to stay single forever. And that is when the dangerously sexy Seelie King rolls through town, looking for fae like me.

Every generation, the king holds a competition for Seelie queen. But for reasons he won’t explain, Torin is looking for a charade, not a real marriage. So when I drunkenly sling insults his way, I have his attention.

When Torin offers me fifty million to participate, I think, “What have I got to lose?” The answer turns out to be “my life,” because my competition will literally kill for the crown.

And the more time I spend with the seductive king, the harder it becomes to remember it’s all supposed to be fake. Now, my life—and my heart—are one the line.

Crystal's Thoughts:

"Our kiss was the first star in the night sky- a spark of light surrounded by darkness."

Ava may have been born fae, but she was raised by a human mother and wants nothing to do with the fae world that abandoned her. She is perfectly happy living a simple human's existence, even if she's never quite fit in. After finding her long-term human boyfriend in bed with another woman though, Ava drunkenly agrees to enter the Seelie king's competition to be the next queen. What harm can come from entering, she'd never fall for such a pompous male and knows that someone like Torin would never go for a common, uncouth fae such as herself. And she can't turn down the money he offers her to enter. Unfortunately along the way, things begin to heat up between Ava and Torin causing not just her life to be at stake in the competition to be queen, but her heart as well...

Frost was such a fun read. Brimming with action and adventure, magic and mystery, humor and flirtation, curses and revelations... I didn't want to put it down!

I loved Ava's journey of self-discovery throughout the tale. From managing the breakup with her loser of an ex-boyfriend, to learning more about her heritage and the fae in general, to really coming into herself as the bad-ass fae female she was always meant to be. Torin was a delicious tortured hero. He comes across as dark and dour at first, but once he and Ava begin their verbal sparring readers really get a glimpse into his wicked personality. There was not a lot of spice in Frost, but the sizzling chemistry, thrilling tension, and  delectable slow-burn was enough to keep me intrigued. And I just adored the banter between these two!

The world that C.N. Crawford has created here is rich and captivating. The human world is just like our own, with the exception of the Fae coming and going into it as they please and being treated like celebrities. The Fae realm though is dark and gothic; with looming castles, whimsical gardens, and shadowy forests. The story itself flowed well, making Frost a quick and easy read. There were some redundancies in the dialogue but overall, I was fully immersed in this story and its characters, and I can't wait to see what the future holds next for Ava!
