Macy Monroe has spent two years living and working in Rome, dreaming about moving back home to Port City. That dream finally comes true when her assignment ends and she finds a new job and new apartment back in the States. As a last hurrah in Europe, she books a layover in Paris for a long weekend full of sightseeing and all the baguettes and cheese she can eat. But her plan hits a snag when a hotel snafu leaves her stranded by the Seine with nowhere to stay.

Fate steps in when she runs into Beckett McLane, her ex-boyfriend from college. He’s in town working on his next novel and offers her a place to stay. Beckett’s the kind of handsome that you never really forget, and Macy’s heart is still a little broken from the breakup. Without any other options, she reluctantly takes him up on the offer.

Macy encourages work-obsessed Beckett to take a much-needed break from his laptop, and as he shows her around town, they get caught up in the romantic City of Light. When they’re together, it’s easy to forget that Macy’s only on a layover and their time together is running out…

Excerpt:

He nods toward my luggage. “Need help getting to your hotel?”
“I’m actually coming from my hotel. There was a bedbug situation, and they’re all booked up for fashion week, which I didn’t know when I planned this trip months ago. So now I’m just...hanging out on my suitcase looking for a place to stay. Lindsay was helping me look before we concussed each other.”
“How’s she doing?”
“She’s in love and happy. She’s doing great.”
He smiles, and his dimple comes out of hiding. God, I’ve missed it. “You should come and stay with us.”
That takes me aback to the point where I nearly send one of my suitcases flying. “What?”
“Come stay with Skye and me. The studio rented a huge duplex for her just down the street. There’s a spare bedroom that’s definitely nicer than anything you’ll be able to find here now.”
The offer is tempting. A nice place to stay in a great neighborhood is a dream come true, apart from the ex thing. Our split was mostly amicable, just two adults deciding that our lives were going in different directions, and all the love in the world couldn’t keep us together. I think that’s why I’ve never gotten over him; when the relationship doesn’t work because of the people in it, that’s one thing. When it doesn’t work because it’s just not the right time, it leaves the door open for a ton of what- ifs. I’ve never been able to stop thinking about them.
“Won’t it be weird?” I ask.
His eyes soften. “Not at all. I’d like to catch up, and Skye will be over the moon to see you. She’s not around much, but...you’ll be a welcome surprise.”
He gives me a few seconds to mull it over, and years of knowing me better than anyone else tell him that I’m going to accept his offer. He slings his bag over his shoulder and reaches for the handles of my suitcases before I’ve even said yes.
“C’mon,” he says.
