Top 5 Reasons to Love Nicole
Today I thought I would help you get to know Nicole, the heroine, by giving you five reasons Sean falls in love with her… along with some snippets from the story that I hope will whet your appetite for more.

She has a fun sense of humor.
“I don’t think any of the telepaths are going to tattle,” Sean said. “Not unless you’re only sleeping with me because you feel obligated.” He narrowed his eyes and pursed his lips playfully. “You aren’t, are you?”
“Well, yeah,” Nicole said with a distinct duh inflection. “I mean, if I don’t sleep with you, who will? Look at you. All those muscles. That chiseled jaw. Those gorgeous brown eyes. And you’re smart, too? What woman would possibly want that?”
He grinned. “You?”
“Damn!” she exclaimed in mock frustration. “I thought I was hiding it better than that.”

She’s honest.
Closing the distance between them, he looped his arms around her and pressed his forehead to hers. “I don’t like this. I don’t like you taking risks.” He had made that abundantly clear the previous night.
Resting her hands on his chest, Nicole toyed with the hair there. “Want to know a little secret?”
He nodded.
“That feeling you’re having right now? That feeling in here?” She tapped his chest.
“Yeah?”
“That’s how I feel every night when you leave to hunt.”
He regarded her with surprise. “It is?”
She rolled her eyes. “Yes, Sean.”
“You worry about me?”
“Of course I do.”
“But I’m immortal.”
“You’re mostly immortal. And you’ve almost died twice during my time as your Second.”
“So have you,” he pointed out.
“Yeah.” She faked a frown. “We’re going to have to stop doing that.”
Smiling, he hugged her a little tighter.

She’s brave and kicks ass.
As the vamp sank to his knees, Sean searched the shadows. Relief swept through him when his gaze alighted upon a small figure half hidden by the corner of the building.
Nicole.
“You shadowed me?”
Striding forward, she kept her head on a swivel and looked stunningly fierce. “Of course I shadowed you. I told you I had a bad feeling tonight. Where’s Tessa?”
He backed away in the direction Tessa had fled. “One of the vamps took off with a victim. Tessa followed him.”
“Go.” Nicole strode past Shaggy, shot him again almost as an afterthought, and knelt beside one of the young women. “I’ll take care of this.”
Nodding, Sean sped away.

Though she definitely falls into the Strong Heroine category, she can still be flustered.
Nicole gaped.
Sean strode toward her, a smile on his handsome face.
A very different Sean...
Holy hell.
Butterflies fluttered in her belly.
Stopping beside her chair, he grinned down at her, looking jaw-droppingly gorgeous… a description that ended up being more accurate than she’d realized.
Tucking a finger beneath her chin, he closed her gaping mouth, then leaned down and pressed a kiss to her lips.
Nicole’s heart began to slam against her ribs.
What was happening?

But she’s not without insecurities.
Nicole smiled as Sean loaded his plate with a second helping of eggplant parmesan. “Worked up an appetite, did ya?”
He grinned. “In the most amazing way possible.”
“Hell, yes.”
After adding some of Cliff’s chunky pasta sauce, Sean winked. “I also figured I should load up on carbs to refuel me for the rest of the night.”
She pointed her fork at him. “I agree with that assessment. Eat up.”
He laughed.
Stomach still growling, Nicole shoveled another forkful of pasta into her mouth.
“You’re so beautiful,” he murmured.
Cheeks as full as a chipmunk’s, she covered her mouth and laughed. As soon as she finished chewing and swallowing, she shook her head. “And you’re crazy as a bag of ferrets.”
Sean grinned. “Crazy for you.”
Nicole liked this flirtatious version of him. She liked everything about him and found it hard to believe that he loved her.
Sean had seen her at her worst. Many times. After living together as long as they had, he could enumerate every one of her imperfections and knew well her stubborn streak.
Yet he loved her.
Did Sean know he was the first person to make such a claim? The first person ever to love her?
