It should have been a routine investigation. Instead, DEA K-9 agent Adam "Deck" Decker watches in horror as one Denver hospital seems to be Ground Zero for overdoses of a new drug. Now Deck can only hope a certain icy, green-eyed ER doctor will help him and his canine partner track down the deadly source.

Dr. Tori Sampson has her reasons for not trusting federal agents, especially ones working for the DEA. But the rash of overdoses—including a heartbreaking case involving a teen—is alarmingly high. And the new opioid is not only extremely dangerous, it defies all the usual medical treatments. So Tori has a choice: work with the big, brawny, and annoyingly hot DEA agent...or watch more innocent people die.

Tori's the only person who can help Deck break the case, and they'll need to trust each other, no matter how high the tension and attraction sizzling between them runs. But with every question answered, they realize there's something more behind these typical teen overdoses. There's a pattern here, and a pattern can only suggest one thing. There's a killer on the loose.

Excerpt

“This never should have happened. I’m definitely not taking you on another warrant. It’s too dangerous.”
I could have been killed.
A wave of dizziness hit her, and she reached out blindly. Deck’s hands gripped her shoulders. She wrapped her arms around her stomach to ward off the sudden chill. Her body began shaking. For a doctor, she should have recognized the signs for what they were. Shock. I’m going into shock.
Deck pulled her against his chest, holding her tightly. “Jesus, I’m sorry.” Then he uttered a string of expletives, snugging her more into his warm embrace, and wow, did it feel good.
Tori melted against him, wrapping her arms around his back and wishing he wasn’t wearing his vest, so she could dig her fingers into his bare skin and absorb his heat into her chilled body.
“You guys okay?” Evan asked.
Without turning around, Deck answered, “Yeah, we’re good.”
Was his voice trembling?
She breathed in his fresh, citrusy scent and tried not to think too deeply about the fact that she could have been shot. The metal and inside of the doorframe must have stopped the bullet. A few inches higher, and it would have shattered the window and embedded itself in her chest or her skull.
Tori shuddered, and Deck adjusted his hands, slipping one of them to her nape, and she could swear she felt his lips on the top of her head.
She’d really gone and done it. She’d stepped outside her comfort zone and look what it had almost gotten her. Dead. Something Deck did every day of his life, ramming home just how incredibly dangerous his job really was. She couldn’t imagine being his girlfriend or wife and living with the fear every day that he wouldn’t come home.
Tori took another shaky breath, resting her cheek against the chest portion of Deck’s vest. Ironically, as she stood there wrapped in his arms, she’d never felt warmer, safer, or more comfortable in her entire life.
