Mythological Romance: Out of Olympus series by Tina Folsom (Guest Post)

Today I would like to welcome back romance author Tina Folsom who is here to help us celebrate Mythology Romance with her Out of Olympus series!

Greek Gods are naughty and live for fun and games
by Tina Folsom

I see Greek Gods as the ultimate hedonists. They live for pleasure, entertainment, and fun. Nothing they do is to be taken too seriously. There is so much mischief hidden within the pages of Greek Mythology that they probably contain several dozens of romantic comedies that only need to be extracted. And really, that’s what I did with A Touch of Greek and its sequel A Scent of Greek.

A Touch of Greek (Out of Olympus, #1)In A Touch of Greek, I picked Triton, the son of Poseidon and made him into a playboy, a seducer, a womanizer who just can’t help himself. He loves women, and that’s his downfall. He angers Zeus by seducing his current mistress and is punished by being exiled to the mortal world. Not everything I write about Triton is rooted in actual Greek mythology. It’s true that he’s the son of Poseidon and that he’s a water god, however, he never took a wife. He’s often depicted as half man, half fish, but I got around that problem by writing in my book that his lower half only turns into a fin when he swims in the ocean. Because for sure, we can’t have a hot hero who hasn’t got hunky legs and ... well, you know, the right equipment to pleasure his lovely lady.

Mythological Romance: Forgotten Goddesses by Stephanie Julian (Guest Post/Giveaway)

Please give a warm welcome erotic romance author Stephanie Julian who is joining us with her Goddesses from her sexy & magical series, Forgotten Goddesses!

Wouldn’t it be great to be an all-powerful deity?
People would worship at your feet. They’d throw gold and jewels and nubile young guys or girls at you. You could do whatever you wanted and no one could tell you no.

Sounds great, right?

I was a huge mythology geek in high school. I took Latin for four years. I had a great teacher, Miss Rurode (who still teaches), who also chaperoned trips to Europe for the students. I went to Italy three times and Greece once, all with Miss Rurode. Those trips were amazing. Sure, some of my friends went because they could drink legally for 10 days but I went for the history and the scenery.
The Roman Forum. The Coliseum. Pompeii. The Parthenon. I had the most amazing time walking through museums filled with ancient artifacts.

Etruscan Hilltop Village - ItalyFast forward twenty years and I’ve got this idea: I want to write a paranormal romance series with a unique mythology. But what pantheon? The Greeks and Romans have been done.
Then I hit on the Etruscans. They’re also from Italy but predate the Romans. In fact, the Romans incorporated much of the Etruscan mythology into their own. But what happens to the old gods and goddesses when the new ones come along?

Mythological Romance: Platinum Passion by Jennifer Lynne (Guest Post/Giveaway)

As our Spotlight on Mythological Romance continues I would like to welcome author Jennifer Lynne who is joining us with the first book in her Gods of Love series, Platinum Passion!

Aphrodite's children: The erotes as gods of desire

Ancient Greece has always been of interest to me, even when I was in the early years of high school. The accessiblity of those Greek gods and their interaction with the humans around them, their volatile natures and dangerous passions burning so close to the surface – all were  fascinating drawcards for a teenage girl with a vivid imagination.

When I was searching for an appropriate mythology that might work for an erotic romance idea called Gods of Love, a series of short, stand-alone novellas with a common theme, it was inevitable that I would look to the heights of Mount Olympus – the home of the Olympian gods – for inspiration. I found a group of winged gods called the erotes, and researching their myth has indeed been heavenly territory – especially for an erotic romance author!

As with most mythological beings, there are many different versions of the erotes myth. The one that resonated best with me is that they are the children of Aphrodite and aspects of the primal god of desire, Eros. I was fascinated by the idea that eros, or "desire", is such a complex emotion that its various aspects could only be personified across several beings rather than contained in one.
