Spicy Simmered Sangria Recipe
(Serves 6)

*Add a dash or two of cayenne pepper to the punch to really heat things up!

Ingredients:
- 1 bottle fruity red wine (such as Zinfandel, Merlot, Cabernet or Syrah)
- ½ cup pomegranate juice
- ½ cup granulated white sugar
- 1 orange, seeds removed and cut into circles
- ¼ cup dried cherries
- 6-7 whole cloves
- 4 whole black peppercorns
- 3 whole allspice
- 1 whole nutmeg
- 1 whole star anise
- 3-4 tablespoons brandy or orange liqueur (such as Grand Marnier)
- Cinnamon sticks for garnish (optional)
Directions:
- Bring all the ingredients except for the wine, brandy (or orange liqueur) and cinnamon sticks to a boil on the stove.
- Let simmer for 7-9 minutes, stirring until the sugar is dissolved.
- Slowly add the bottle of wine and brandy (or orange liqueur). Heat until hot but not boiling.
- Ladle the mixture teacups or coffee mugs, making sure each serving has a slice of orange but leaving the whole spices behind in the pot.
- Garnish each serving with a stick of cinnamon for stirring and enjoy!
