Theme Songs on the Texas Cowboys Blog Tour with Linda Broday & Carolyn Brown (#Giveaway)

They are tough, hard working, and have the manners their mama gave them. Is it no wonder that readers are in love with the ultimate hero — cowboys. Today we’ve got Western romance authors Carolyn Brown and Linda Broday to introduce their newest ranchin’ heroes — by picking the perfect country western song to describe these cowboys. Take it away ladies!

Carolyn Brown:
Country music plays a big part in The Trouble with Texas Cowboys since Sawyer and Jill spend most of their evenings running the bar for her Aunt Polly. Sawyer’s first thought when Jill was standing there with a shot gun trained on his chest was “T.R.O.U.B.L.E.” by Travis Trett. Although Jill doesn’t say so in the book, I feel sure she’d describe Sawyer by humming, “Doin’ What She Likes” by Blake Shelton. The lyrics say that she likes it when he runs his fingers through her long hair and when he sings her old silly songs and throws in words where they don’t belong. And that she likes it when he tells her how good she looks in them blue jeans and holding her all night. I don’t know if Blake had Sawyer in mind when he sang this song but it could be the theme song if they ever made The Trouble with Texas Cowboys into a movie.

Linda Broday:
Rancher Cooper Thorne, the oldest of his blood brothers, is the hero in Texas Mail Order Bride. He's the founder of the Battle Creek Bachelors Club and has vowed to never marry because of his horrific past. He’s happy being a bachelor or so he tells himself.

The country western song that aptly describes him is "Desperado" by the Eagles. The song says, “Oh, you’re a hard one but I know you got your reasons. These things that are pleasin’ you can hurt you somehow.” But the line in the song that really gets to the heart and soul of Cooper Thorne is, “Your prison is walkin’ through this world all alone.” He’s a man who yearns for a wife and family but knows if he lets that happen that it’ll destroy him. He’s got his father’s killer blood running through his veins and he’ll not take a chance on a child of his having it too. He’s determined that the violent cycle will end with him. So he denies the thing he most wants, telling himself that it’s for the best, the way it has to be. Everyone has crosses to bear and Cooper’s is heavier than most. He has only to look at the scars on his back to remember that all things come with a price. But taking a chance on not tainting the blood of a child of his is one that is too high to pay. Yet when Delta Dandridge arrives on the stagecoach, he discovers the hope that is lodged in his heart. Maybe she can help rid him of the painful grip of his past. I hope you’ll try Texas Mail Order Bride and if you like it, look for Twice a Texas Bride coming in May. Happy Reading!

  1. Both books look great! I love country music, too! Desperado was one of my favorite songs from the 70's!

  2. I like the choices of music for these two books. I had to go to Amazon to hear Travis Trett's song because it was unfamiliar to me. But I was already very familiar with and fond of the Eagle's song, Desperado. Both are "right on" for the subjects of the two books. Thanks for the interesting post! jdh2690@gmail.vom
